Why should a player be banned if he dives for a penalty and gets away with it?

Since it is a yellow card offence surely it should be the referee that should be punished after the match for not spotting the dive.

Tetchy ground here, tough to say. If a referee is conned how can that be his fault?

By the way if Krasic is banned for Milan, as Iaquinta missed the pen I'd say we lost the bet.

It doesn't matter whether the referee saw it or not. Just like it doesn't matter if the ref didn't see a player elbow another in the face intentionally. These things are later reviewed and acted upon.

I think it's different if there's no contact though. It means he completely faked the incident and that seems likely to be punishable. I still think it was genius:D

When we evaluate whether the dive was smart or not, the result shouldn't matter. It's like when a bad poker plays stupid but ends up winning the pot anyway because of luck. He's still a bad player that made a stupid move even if he won. In this case, yellow card was the most likely scenario and even if it was a penalty a ban seems like a possibility. Therefore, it's easy to conclude that it was a stupid dive which he shouldn't do again
