A stoppage time Igor Tudor volley has beaten Deportivo 3-2 and qualified Juventus for the quarter-finals. The Bianconeri can only be eliminated if Basle put more than five goals past them in the final game.
Juventus and Deportivo La Coruna were level on points going into this game and therefore it was a play-off for the second qualifying spot behind Manchester United. Swiss outfit Basel were also not out of the running.

The Bianconeri were forced to get back on track following two consecutive defeats to Man U. In five previous encounters with Deportivo in Europe, Marcello Lippi's men have never been able to win.

The Spaniards had the first shot on goal after ten minutes when Gianluigi Buffon parried a Juan Fran drive, but up the other end Juanmi made a fine save on Marco Di Vaio.

It was Juve who broke the deadlock when Ciro Ferrara rose to nod in a corner kick.

The veteran defender netted his first Champions' League goal of the campaign and almost grabbed a second soon after, but his free header skimmed the upright.

Roy Makaay took advantage of a defensive error that left him one on one with Buffon, but the goalkeeper blocked his weak effort.

The Spaniards began to pile on the pressure and Diego Tristan tapped in a Makaay centre from eight yards following a classic counter-attack.

Juve were hit hard by this equaliser and seemed shell-shocked, while Makaay fired over the bar from a good position soon after.

Mauro Camoranesi and Di Vaio were not particularly impressive and both were substituted by Marcelo Zalayeta and Gianluca Pessotto over the half-time break.

However, despite a strong start, Juve went behind on a splendid Makaay solo effort. The Dutchman turned and swerved an unstoppable shot into the far corner from the edge of the box.

The Bianconeri tried to fight back, but tepid penalty appeals for a challenge on David Trezeguet were waved away.

The Frenchman had very little service, but when Edgar Davids did whip in a good cross, Trezeguet pounced to turn a low drive past Juanmi and draw Juventus level.

The bit was between their teeth and Trezeguet sprung the offside trap on Alessio Tacchinardi's pass moments later, but his volley ricocheted off the far post.

Tension was high and a scuffle broke out when Paolo Montero clattered into Hector, but both sides had chances to win it with Valeron and Ferrara headers.

On 88 minutes Zalayeta had the best scoring opportunity set up by Trezeguet's header, but ballooned his shot well wide.

In stoppage time the Uruguayan got his effort on target, but it was deflected by Naybet for a corner.

The pressure was on, although the Spaniards were also dangerous on the break, but three minutes into stoppage time substitute Igor Tudor blasted in a magnificent volley from the edge of the box to give Juventus a precious 3-2 victory.
