Agreed. Messi shows outrageous bits of skill that other players maybe have a few times in their career where in Messi does it every week.

The talent that Messi has is miles beyond anyone, even Ronaldo but Ronaldo makes up the gap with psychotic desire to be the best. Sheer will.

I’ve generally said I rate Messi a tiny bit higher than Ronaldo, career wise in the past, although I think that gap has shrunk to non-existent over the past few years. It’s more so the ludicrous people who claim Messi is a clear level or levels above that annoy me.

And the silly disregarding of Ronaldo outside goalscoring. The dude holds the records for both CL goals and assists, and both of those in the knockouts as well.

And while the last few years he played with incredible midfielders and FBs, he has never played with attackers like Suárez, Neymar, prime Villa, Henry, Zlatan, etc. Nor had Xavi and Iniesta behind him. I think Messi's failings to score or create assists in the The CL knockouts for 3 years straight now are pretty telling also.

Anyways. Messi’s talent is undeniable, but he doesn’t have the drive and fire of Ronaldo and that keeps them pretty level imo.
