Most of what you are describing is too dependent on the team around them though. CL is a team tournament and frequently, between Messi and CR, the one who wins Balon D'or does so after winning a team tournament.

CR got the balon dor on all of his CL runs, and only once got it when he didnt win it. Messi got balon dor on 3 out of his 4 CL runs, and got 2 when he didnt win it, one of them when he choked at the WC. i mean, you can say Messi is better at this or that, but 10 years from now people will look at this and ask, how do you put Messi above this guy. it just doesent add up

This forum is incredibly reactionary and full of closeted homosexuals so I understand everyone is googly eyed about Ronaldo right now I'm just pointing out that I think lately people have been forgetting/ downplaying some of the insane shit Lionel Messi used to pull off on a regular basis.
