I think Ronaldo will be ahead of Messi if he wins the Ballon d'or this season. At one time Messi was so dominate but he might not be as dominant for every system like he is for that one with Xavi and Iniesta. Hes still light years above the rest outside Ronaldo but Ronaldo is looking more and more deadly every year

A penalty a fluke deflected goal and a good free kick nothing out of the ordinary but i dont know if Messi has it in him anymore to top that

Ronaldo has been such beast when it matters most for Portugal.

Messi needs to win the WC or do something spectacular to be consudered the GOAT even though i think he is anyway

Messi isnt even the greatest of his own generation, yet people think hes the GOAT ::lol3::
meh I think it's entirely understandable. People here are forgetting how unstoppable Messi was a few years back, during Barca's peak years.

He was so good at times, and in crucial CL games too, it almost wasn't even fair. And his ability to drop deep just pick up a football under pressure and somehow turn at full pace, beat 3 or 4 defenders and play a perfect through ball to a teammate, splitting the opposition defense, for a 1-1 with the keeper.

Ronaldo was never capable of a number of things that Messi has done year after year. No footballer I have been alive to see was.

I think it's easy to see why there is a debate. The level of Messi's talent and technical ability surpasses Ronaldo but Ronaldo is so fucking clutch when it matters. Seriously, that hattrick today was just ridiculous. He dragged a mediocre Portugal team to a draw against, what is imo, the best national football side in the world.

Messi is probably the most talented player ever but if Ronaldo wins mediocre Portugal a World Cup then probably does surpass messi as the best player overall

after this year, Ronaldo surpasses him in Balon dors and CL victories. he has the edge in NT trophies as well. you cant have a player out dominate you and be GOAT

Most of what you are describing is too dependent on the team around them though. CL is a team tournament and frequently, between Messi and CR, the one who wins Balon D'or does so after winning a team tournament.
