It is valid. Based on this comparison, they give the best player award every year, even if not necessarily to the best player, then to the most valuable player of the year. In that sense, you can compare any two players with each other. And Zidane was a far more valuable player than Messi has, is and will be. Where was Zizou at 24? Does this make Michael Owen, who was already a star at 18 a better player than Zidane too?
Messi has many years left in his career but this age excuse wouldn't work I'm afraid. At this age, he is a very experienced player who is already awarded the world best player twice. Still, he has been a total let-down with his national side which makes you wonder if he can be as good in any other team than Barca.

I thought you started to hate me, seriously. I feel only negativity when you quote me lol. I think it's rather silly to use NT as something to compare. Some will just play in a torture, but that doesn't mean they're less quality.
Same goes for Ronaldo and Portugal. I highly doubt they'll achieve something, but that doesn't have to mean he's not amazing.
