wrong it hinges on many things who actually wins la liga and or has the better mundial
Actually, if Netherlands ends up with a good run in the WC and Robben does shine like he did with Bayern this season, I see no reason what so ever for these two to win while he's there.

nah robben had nothing on ronaldo or messi this year, unless he singlehandedly wins the WC for NL(yeah right lol) no way he gets a mention ahead of those 2
He had a better season than those two and he could well end up winning the treble with Bayern this season and if he manages to keep his form in the WC and have a good run with his team there (which Im sure they will btw) I see no reason why he shouldn't be competing with those two. Keeping in mind that Messi and Ronaldo both have had a shitty WC qualifying campaign that could well turn out to be the same in the WC with an early exit.

Only a little more than 4 months of this year have passed. You can't know who will be the best player over the course of the year.
This time in 2006 Ronaldinho was by far the best in the world, but in the second part of the season he was almost awful.

World Player of the year and the Ballon d'or are given to the best player in the last 12 months.

So even if these awards weren't WC biased, you still couldn't know who is the best in 2010.

Barring any injuries or anything crazy, i don't see why Messi would suddenly have a huge drop in form. Because it would take a huge drop in form for him not to win player of the year.

I'd bet my house that if he stays fit, he'll win it come the end of the year.

It will hugely depend on the WC and his form in November.

Journalists vote in the France football ballon d'or award, while the national coaches and captains vote for the world player of the year.
Usually people remember what happened recently and what happened at big competitions like the WC or the CL, SO if Argentina doesn't have a good WC and if Messi drops in form come November the way he did in September/early October 2009, then he won't win anything at all.
