Cannavaro close to Juve
Friday 27 August, 2004
Inter stopper Fabio Cannavaro could be just hours away from becoming a Juventus player.
The defender has been linked with the Turin giants for some time and talks have resumed after a move to Real Madrid failed to materialise.
Reports on Friday claim that the Italian captain will arrive in a straight swap deal with Fabian Carini.
The Uruguayan ‘keeper, currently on loan with Standard Liege, is seen by the Nerazzurri as a future replacement for Francesco Toldo.
The Bianconeri seem to need a new central defender and boss Fabio Capello is a known admirer of the 30-year-old.
Cannavaro, who is contracted to Inter until 2006, is believed to be in favour of a switch after a few difficult seasons at the San Siro.
A move to the Delle Alpi would see him team up with Gigi Buffon and Lilian Thuram again after their time together at Parma.
He would also be guaranteed a first team shirt with Juventus, something that he isn’t currently at Inter.
There is some stiff competition for places at the San Siro given that Sinisa Mihajlovic, Nicolas Burdisso, Ivan Cordoba and Marco Materazzi are all available for selection
