Vermaelen has had a few decent seasons in his carreer, but never beyond the level Benatia reached at his Udinese seasons, and far far below the heights of Benatia's 2013/14 season.

Benatia had, like you said, one good season. One. And he's 29 and gets injured all the time. I don't understand why the fuck we'd sign him and even less why some are masturbating over him.

Vermaelen had a couple of decent seasons at Ajax and Arsenal, teams that are trying to win the league in their respective countries (well at least Ajax is). I'd consider his career vastly superior to Benatia's.

Just look at the Khedira experiment. I didnt worked.
The guy is hella good, but we knew he had an horrid injury record, was bought anyways. Now we need to find a replacement for him because he cannot be trusted.

People can say all the good he is, but he is injured every 2 months. Cannot be trusted.

Khedira didn't work out?

We got him for free, we didn't buy him. He played 2000 minutes and was an integral part in our recovery to win the Scudetto again.

Seriously.

This isn't true at all. He was fantastic at Udinese in the season before he went to Roma.

Khedira was a major success here. apart from the one mistake vs Bayern when he lost the ball in Turin, played on a high level each time for us. Brilliant signing. For free

Even if he did, which I guess I can sort of agree with, it's still only Udinese. And it would still only be two seasons. I agree with you about Khedira, but we got him for free. We'd still be paying for Benatia.

This signing is not for this year. It's for 2 years from now. Barzagli is not immortal. And Chiellini is getting up there as well.

We're getting him on loan with an option to buy that depends upon him actually playing, from what it looks like.

This is the first season of his career he's actually had substantial injury problems. I guess we should have offloaded Barza a couple years ago when he had an injury filled season. Send Chiello away too because he was injured all the time this past year. People really exaggerate "injury prone" on this forum. People acting like it is Khedira all over again clearly know nothing about this player.

Second. There was a reason Bayern paid 30 mil for him. He wasn't just decent, he was the best defender in all of Serie A that season. That's a big difference.

No, he had one truly worldclass season (something Vermaelen hasn't come close to), and at least two good seasons at Udinese (have no idea how he did before that).

You could say that Vermaelen had a better career purely because of the clubs he played for and the trophies he won, but that's like saying Padoin had a better career than Di Natale.

If that's the case it might not be such a bad idea. X raises a good point about Rugani though.

Padoin didn't play at those clubs and certainly wasn't their captain.

Bayern rarely spends wrong like that IMO so there is a reason they spent that on him: I don't think he will be a fluke.

bought loan free whatever, he was brought here to be a staple and to fill the shoes of vidal. He did very good like i mentioned but u ignored, but he IS INJURY PRONE. That canot be ignored and is a BIG problem for a key starter. No matter how u look at it.

For Benatia it could be okaish because he will be on the bench most games most likely, but Khedira is a starter, and we already have Marchisio out for the long haul and we dont know how much time it will take for him to recover, or even worst, he can pull an asamoah and get new injuries here and there which are not related to his actual one.

TLDR: We need to have available midfielders.
