I think many did. After a good start, he had a very inconsistent spell as well under Lippi; often dissapearing for matches ( sound familiar ?). Under Capello he became a key-player. Capello got much better out of him, than Lippi did. Becoming even more important under DD and then Ranieri, despite the many injuries under the latter.
