I don't care about this deal all that much, but why would we get their hopes up and take them for a ride for so long?

Kind of disrespectful if you ask me. I don't see how getting a poor relationship with these guys benefitted us at all.

If we didn't want him, we should have just told them.

I ve always admired the real Mattheus, is this kid any good though, or just carries his father surname and Lothars name?
Interesting to see we are interested on non Italians and got past Veratti!

He has some talent, seemingly a beautiful left foot, great distribution, quality shot from range...lightweight, far from speedy, definitely needs to bulk up to make it in the senior game, especially the vicious professional game in Italy. Played a fair amount for Flamengo last season, then since we entered into negogiations with him and the parties who own him, he has hardly featured in the new brazilian season (started April I think).

His contract ends in December, when we could have him for free.
I thought we agreed on 1-2m in January, then Flamengo or a third party wanted more so we decided to wait till december assuming we had an agreement with the player. The parties who own him, obviously want a transfer fee, the higher the better.

Bebeto himself has changed from trying to persuade him to stay in Brazil, to now, apparently, offering him to Real Madrid and comparing him to Zico!!! A fast turn around.

All in all, he seems like a talented kid. The more players we procure who are very comfortable on the ball and very creative, the better. its one of the major things our senior squad lacks. The two close this mould of player we loaned out last term, Buoy and Appelt, have done OK, but the dutchman's season was cruelly curtailed by injury, and Gabriel's season was also stop and start due to a fracture he suffered in late 2012. Both need at the very least another season before approaching any consideration for Juve, or dare I say, even Serie A football in general. Gabriel is much more defensive minded, but still, close-ish to our Pirlo regista role...in terms of his natural game.

“I haven’t signed yet, but there are only a few details left,” Mattheus told Globoesporte, referring to a contract extension.
“I always said I’d only leave Flamengo if the club reached a deal with Juventus, but that didn’t happen.”

This thread could be closed.

Mattheus has renewed with Flamengo for 5 years. Juventus decided not to move forward with the offer.

It would be a total cost of between 2-4M for an unproven youngster whose contract ends in 6 months.

Smart decision by Marotta/Paratici. I don't think it would be worthy.
