Aquilani was doing well until everything just fell apart last year. Then again, Del Neri was an idiot for trying to put him in a deep lying playmaker role when even a 5 year old could tell you that he is at his best playing further up the pitch.

At first he wasn't performing badly, true. The problem with him is that defensively he's very average, and for the little he offers to the team offensively when compared to now, we were always going to suffer.

I think everyone knew that defensively he was weak. He even makes Pirlo look like Emerson when it comes to defensive responsibilities. And he is nowhere as good when it comes to making long range passes as Pirlo is. Aquilani's game was controlling the flow of play up to the box and then deliviering good short passes and having a killer shot from outside the box. All things that Del Neri failed to realize. Anyway, he's in the past now, so this is all I'm going to say about it.


As for Hummels, I was thrilled when Matri came, and I hope that Hummels can provide just as much for this team as Matri has.
