“Being here is marvelous. The negotiation was long, I had the anxiety of not being able to arrive, but everything went for the best. The Friedkins wanted me strongly, I immediately understood their ambition for this club and where they want to take it.

“And now I am here, in retreat with my new team and I couldn’t ask for anything better. We are working hard and with great intensity: we will be ready for the first match of the championship against Cagliari.”

Soulé also spoke about his close bond with Paulo Dybala: “For me, he is an older brother, a guide not just in football but in life. When I was younger, I saw him as a sacred monster, a player I couldn’t approach because I was in awe.

“Then we started to know each other, we entered into harmony and we formed a good relationship at Juventus. There is an anecdote that I will never forget. It was Paulo’s last year at Juve, he was playing one of the final games of the season.

“There was a quarter of an hour left to the end when I see him speaking at a distance with Landucci while indicating me. Unfortunately, the substitutions were finished, but Dybala had asked the bench to let me enter because he wanted to play with me at least once before leaving Juve.

“It is a memory that will always remain with me, because it made me understand how much he cared about me, and his esteem for me. When Paulo left Juve I had sent him the message ‘I hope with all my heart to be able to play with you someday’. Jokes of fate, three years later here we are together.”

Reflecting on his Juventus departure, Soulé said, “A somewhat painful topic, especially for the first months of 2024. Because I didn’t think of leaving Juve, on the contrary, I was concentrated on playing well with Frosinone to deserve a shirt.

“Instead then in January I come to know that they were ceding me to an Arab club, but I didn’t have any intention of going there even if by now it was clear to me what my future would be. I was disappointed because I thought of being able to play for Juve, but then I made my peace with it.”

Regarding his former coach, Thiago Motta, Soulé said, “He is a splendid person. He was always close to me, he supported me, trained me and gave me many pieces of advice. Then he joked a lot with me: ‘You don’t leave here if you don’t leave 70 million’.

“The truth is that Thiago wanted me to stay at Juve, he saw me very well in his plans and in his attack. But by now the decision of Juve had been taken: I was needed to make money, I accepted it and at that point I couldn’t wait to leave.

“I don’t regret anything of my experience at Juve where I was very well, just that unexpected goodbye in January.”
Well that could explain his somewhat dive in form.

Welp, I hope we don't regret this one...
we will, he's a good player

also the sooner people realize that books motivate this mercato very heavily the better. if it was pre-covid, pre-ronaldo juve and we had a coach who relied on wingers soulé would have never been sold before giving him a few seasons in the 1st team

There are other options for the books though.

Especially if our mercato ends up being Luiz 50M, Nico 30M, Galeno 30M.

There aren't, that's the sad part. No one really wants rest of our rejects, let alone pay 30m for them like Soule. So he was sold simply for financial reasons.

If they could sell other deadweight for similar sum they would have.

The best discarded player deal they got was Kean for 12m euro. The rest aren't moving at all or moving for under 10m deals.

It doesn't make sense to sell Soule for 25M and buy Nico and Galeno for 30M each. I don't really care how it's spread out between the years. There's no guarantee we will be in a better financial position when the rest of those amounts come due.

Scenes when he cuts in, dribbling past Cabal and Gatti, and curls a shot across De Gregorio. Dybala ran to hug him, he didn't celebrate , but cursed Giuntoli in his heart.

You may don't care, but it's litterally why it's done in this current insanely bad financial state of the club. Getting pure profit on the entire sale amount, while anyone who they sign now on overall similar total sum, will only count for a fraction of it for this year's accounting.

As you been told before, they doing this to prolong it to future calendar years when they hope for better financial health for the club.

But without the pure profit of sales, especially youngsters with lost cost on our own books, they wouldn't be able to legit do any signings for this summer. This is by financial necessity not by choice.

If it was purely by choice clearly Soule would still be in Juve squad.

Same strategy we've been following for years now.

Stupidity 101: an immediate fix that creates a bigger problem down the line.

You're not telling me anything I don't already know my man. :D I work in IT and finance.

There's always another option, like not buying some of the players we have purchased or are rumored to purchase.

If Soule was on a massive salary or his contract was expiring, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But that's not the case.

And if the argument is we sold Soule to fund Koop, well, then where is Koop? There's no guarantee we will sign him this window either.

It's not even an immediate fix if we don't purchase our main targets.

Or, here's another example of where I would accept the reasoning to sell Soule.

If we didn't come up with 25M by August 1st, then we would go into administration or not be able to register for the 24/25 season.

But again, that's not the case here.

I'm not saying its especially smart, but it's a cost saving one for short term gain.

They have to adapt to what they got, took over management after no CL and huge FFP problem with squad of overpaid rejects.

I would like to keep Soule too instead of get profit for him, but what do you suggest to be done if they don't have funds to work with unless they sell the more expendable profitable assets?

My main issue is that this has been our strategy for too long. Spinazzola being the first high profile example, iirc. Players or prospects needing to be sold immediately because otherwise we can't pay the bills/meet FFP criteria/buy random players/whatever. That's just terrible management.

Just last winter, both Dragusin & De Winter had to be sold immediately for a few million each. Creative accounting aside, explain me how either one of them could not have taken Rugani's place?
Better yet, now we're scrambling to sign a defender. Any defender from the looks of it. It's not going to be plan A, apparently it's not going to be plan B either. So I'm just going to assume that the only criterium that future player has to meet is that he's a defender.

(I'm not a big Soulé fan, so that specific deal doesn't even bother me in the slightest. My initial post was made just to point out that we've been making these kinds of shortsighted deals for years now.)

But to answer your question, what I would do is simple: Don't spend money you don't have. It's good advice, both for football clubs & the general public.

Seems like Toli the leader of our junta, heard you. Seems like that's exactly the plan for this summer except for handful of signings lol. Backed out of Calafiori and now Todibo due to lack of funds. And seems to be offering loan with obligation for most deals (or player swaps in case of Luiz)

Only big cash signing he seems willing to do seems to be Koopmeiners.

See, that's exactly the point. You still have to pay, just not right now. Shortsighted, I tell ya!
