Imagine a scenario where you get invited to Monaco for a meeting to discuss a job you don't even want so they can throw huge numbers at you to try and convince you to accept. All while they ply you with champagne from King Solomon's private stash and get you sucked off by a descendant of Cleopatra.

if the offer exists, he'll take it. like nobody in his position won't ever give up on 14m for 2 seasons, nobody in his position refuses 20+ million per season. so if he eventually stays then you can be sure that the offer never really existed.
