For as shit as he is now it doesn’t mean he was never good. He did better with that established team of quality players than conte could do

The way I see it is that he’s had 2 years out of the game and football has now completely left him behind, he’s too stubborn and unadaptable to move with it (very similar in that characteristic to Wenger). Also he clearly has no idea how to build a winning squad, he’s someone that can do well in good times but can’t get you out of bad times.

What he says is true if you have a flimsy midfield like ours. And unfortunately we can't compare ourselves to City in any metric right now apart from history so it's not a good comparison. Comparing a team at their historical peak to a struggling one never will be.

Allegri used to know how to create a balanced attack, not a gung ho one, but he had the midfield to do it.

@JuveJay We gave up 30 shots to Sevilla because we tried to defend our lead, in those 10 minutes they registered half of those shots. Empoli was a terrible performance but I didn't see us attacking so hard that Empoli were ruthlessly countering, that was the last 5 minutes only. They just hit us in short spells of sustained attack, all they did was make sure they had extra players for support. Nothing remarkable or groundbreaking.

We don't know how to attack and we don't know how to use our players. Chiesa had some success as a pure winger, he's not played so high up all season. Di Maria was in the middle for some reason, he was clearly frustrated. Kean was left wing but then went centre. Big man Vlahovic was waiting for crosses that never came. No shots from outside the box. No clever passes, no isolating the defenders, no over the top balls, no springing the offside trap, no overlaps, nothing.

Allegri is so clueless that 4-2-3-1 by mighty Empoli was enough to unravel our defensive 3-5-2. We are happy to sit back because we think we're good enough to defend but we don't keep clean sheets. If we were a threat going forward, no way are Empoli brave enough to attack like they did. Empoli let us back into the game at 3-0 because they sat back, but when they conceded they went up the other end and scored another. It was the manager schooling Allegri tactically with some very basic ideas that Di Maria couldn't solve for mister. The players are limited but they don't play anywhere close to their ceiling.
