There is no worse feeling for a football fan than the conviction that the coach, the man at the helm is a stubborn idiot. Then it becomes clear that no lineup, no transfer, no money, no recovery from injury will change anything in the season anymore. This stage is total resignation. You already know that the man is not improving and how it will end.

Then comes the countdown until the team starts playing against the coach. Then another countdown before the owners notice it, send out the first signals of hope for change. Then waiting for the ultras to speed up their decisions. Brief moments of relief when names of possible successors emerge. Finally blaspheming the coach through all possible channels, humiliating your own dignity by enjoying the media lynching him - all in the hope that he will resign himself, even though they never do...

It usually takes a whole season. We are only at the first stage.

To be fair he changed tactics last week at the first water break which changed the game for us. The introduction of Miretti also changed things today, although not enough unfortunately. I'd say it is unfair to say he's lost that ability.

You could turn it around and say why didn't he start both games like this? That is the issue for me, we are being too conservative which is hurting us.

I do have sympathy for him. People seem to be expecting dramatic improvements with the same weak squad with injuries to our big signings. That isn't going to happen. But we all knew how a mid containing Rabiot and McKennie would be. I'll give the benefit of the doubt to say Miretti missed preseason and maybe he hasn't seen enough of Rovella yet but there needs to be more ball players starting for us and I'd be very disappointed if there isn't on a consistent basis over the coming months.
But when he changed tactic last week he’d lined up in a 4-4-2 and had McKennie playing left wing with Di Maria as a striker - the same failed system we played last season just with Rabiot and Dybala. I can’t credit him for changing tactic by simply adopting the formation everyone in the world though we should be playing anyway.

Today he brought in Miretti, it improved us but he did it way too late. Even the rovella sub helped us but it was in the 87th minute.

He’s making mistakes but more importantly he’s not given us any kind of identity, we look clueless. These players don’t even look like they are being coached. Today so many players were anonymous, Cuadrado was basically invisible, the midfield was left in the locker room. More over samp were crap, they didn’t play well. We played appallingly

No amount of transfers will change anything here, unless you expect a mercato with top players coming in for every position.

Surely this squad is good enough to beat relegation-battlers like Sampdoria, no? You can always drop points but at least show up.

No market will fix the attitude because this comes from the coach and his instructions. He's the problem. The team plays too low and too slow, that's a consequence of his training and tactics.

On another note: no one forces him to start talent-less McKennie and Rabiot in midfield.

See, there is no fucking way he will bench him anytime soon.
No mention of the fact that the goal came all from Miretti. But no, he chooses to slate him in front of the press because he "tracked back". Way to wreck the kid's confidence. He was one of your only bright spots in the game and you decide to throw him under the bus like that. Of the players he could have praised he decides to praise the least deserving of them all.

I feel like he is trolling us on purpose. No way he can keep saying these outrageous things with a straight face.

Yeah we were poor.

I'd agree, I didn't like the starting tactic in both games. Nonetheless, he made changes in both games which improved the team based on reading the game, which you said he can't do. Whether it is obvious to people or not it was something that happened.

As I said the more valid criticism is of the starting tactics.

Does he realize that Rabiot has played almost 100 games in Serie A and has a record of 5g 6a. This are one season stats of average Serie A mid and he did it in 3 seasons total. He averages assist every 1100mins ( every 12 game) and goal every 1320 mins ( every 14 game)
