Perhaps he thought he would outsmart Pooch with that lineup. I'm perplexed myself. Both Pjanic and Khedira are slow players yet they are facing one of the fastest playing teams in Europe
That's why i still think Stu would have come in handy in a mid 3 tonight. Just for the extra legs.

Allegri isn’t really that adaptable. We enter every big game with roughly the same gameplan:

1. Press high and hard up the pitch in the first 20-25 minutes, this is when absolutely have to nick a goal for our gameplan to work

2. When the players are tired, we retreat in our own half and resort to counterattacking tactics.

3. We always concede possession, even when we had an amazing midfield in 2015, we could only maintain 39% possession

This is how we play every big game. High intensity at the start, then a drop off when fatigue hits 25 minutes into the game, and I never expect us to have possession.

This tactic works against Napoli, earlier this season beat them 0-1. This is because Napoli does not have the forwards to hurt our organized defence. However, when we face an elite team like Bayern/Barca/Real, this tactic usually fails because they have the tools to break us down.

Allegri may be juggling between formation, but his tactics remain the same. If we play one of the elite teams in the later stages of the CL this season, I fully expect the same gameplan as per usual.
I called it.

Allegri is so predictable. We enter every big game with the same tactics and mentality.

Before the tidal wave of "pussy tactics' starts:

The formation was too aggressive. It wasn't pussy. It was a mistake to play with 2 CMs and not 3. It's not a pussy tactic if you are playing with 4 midfielders instead of 5.

We couldn't grab possession because we didn't have enough in midfield. Because we had one too many attackers on the field. He went with Khedira-Pjanic in front of the defence which is basically the most aggressive and risky thing you could do.

This is actually the most common theme with Allegri in CL. It's not pussy tactics, it's the opposite. It's why we got smashed in the 2nd half vs. Madrid. He risks a lot to defend with 8 instead of 9 and hope our attackers can put chances away.

And still it basically worked as we should have had a minimum 3-2 result.

To be honest, when we went up 2-0. If he switched to a 4-3-3 with Costa on LW to utterly rape Aurier, the game would end 4 or 5 nil.
What's the point of playing this aggressive as you say with four attackers if you're not pressing high. I'd love to see Mandy's heat map in this match. Practically played with two left backs.

How on earth was Marchisio able to play against VIola but not participate in this game. His calmness on and off the ball would have done wonders.

Marchisio must be broke

People wanting Stu to start? Seriously? :howler: We were playing at home, and I guess we needed to take a calculated risk, but there's no excuse for that lethargic display, particularly in the 1st half after going 2-0 up.

2-2 is not a disastrous result, but Allegri needs to ensure that Dybala and Matuidi are wrapped in cotton wool in preparation for the return leg. No need to risk them for some shitty Serie A game against some obscure team, or even the Coppa tie against Atalanta.

allegri tactics: sit back, make them have the ball and slowly build their confidence then let's struggle to the rest of the game because it's the only way we are considered worthy winners

They had their full confidence 2 minutes after going 2-0 down. They basically knew that Juve would rarely try to attack or press them from that point on.

You can't press with Khedira and Pjanic.

    Spot on bro. Terribly predictable.

Do our players not have the fitness for a 90 minute match or something? Of course they do, but it's his tactics. He hasn't changed them since he's been here.
do we though? I mean, we have horrible trainers so the fitness guy might suck too.

Let's be honest. This team is aging and cannot compete in the UCL this season. Tottenham played a derby one day after us and traveled, yet they used their first sub at the 83rd minute and kept running all game.

We need an overhaul in the summer where we replace the oldies and bring in some competition for certain positions.

Get rid of the Khediras, Lichts, Asamoahs, Sturaros. Players like MDS, Matuidi, Mandzukic, Chiellini and Barzagli should be on the bench.

Allegri did a good job with the squad Marotta put at his disposal.

Isn't it exactly what a few nutjobs on here wanted to see?
I don't know. I'm not one of those thinking modern footie is all about gung hu style bullshit, but there's a limit to how much respect you show the other side. At this point I honestly think this team has fundamental issues in keeping possession under pressure. They just don't know how to. It doesn't only happen in Europe, we saw it against lazio, napoli, sporting and any half decent team that plays high line.
