1) Because he has MUCH more time and less pressure and can cherry pick the target, and 70% are sideways passes to bonucci or backwards passes to buffon

2)Cause in a 3-5-2 one cb is always beeing a passing option on the wing, and one of the other cb's will be used to switch to the other flank when the midfield is covered. its one of the reasons a 3-5- 2 is tricky to play against as the defence is very versatile in giving options to switch the play when wanting to keep possession instead of passing into space

3)they are in a $#@!ty form, cause they should be doing much, much better

Thing is they know this isn't good enough, at least the players will admit to it publicly like Buffon and Bonucci.

Allegri also says all the time that the game must improve.

They are all very aware of this. In great part it's on Marotta, because the squad was poorly constructed - glaring need in midfield, as everybody knows it. In other part, Allegri hasn't seem to be done enough to change this pattern.

Current position belies the actual quality of our football. Our midfield is slow, predictable, and weak, regardless of our position. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly blind or biased beyond belief. If we wish to make an impact in Europe, we are going to have to convince, and possibly entertain, and we are failing miserably on both counts at present.

100% agree. I don't think I've ever said different. Pirlo 11/12 > Marchisio 14/15 by a good margin. And that's nothing against Marchisio, as over the last 2 seasons I believe he's been one of the best CMs in football (and definitely the most underrated), but Pirlo was the very best CM in football in 11/12 and through Euro 2012. By far.

Hopefully Witsel coming in January will help but he's going to be cup tied. Mandragora might play in the second half of the season but I doubt he'll have much of an impact.

We need to find a way to make Pjanic perform, otherwise we're not going to do anything in Europe.

With Marchisio coming back, Pjanic should be a bit better. To make it even better, I think we should play Lemina as B2B more. Kherdia can't play 3 matches in a row anyway and Lemina would make up for Pjanic's physical and overall defensive weakness. He'd add more dynamism and toughness to the midfield as well.

The other part is linked to the system, I'm afraid. Pjanic needs runners who attack open spaces and move a lot. Otherwise all he'll do is some back passes.

Allegri surely has a headache when it comes to Pjanic and he has to readjust the system. We're not getting the most out of Higuain either so there's a lot of things to improve despite the fact we're winning most of our matches.
