He has proper midfielders to do his job. He doesn't do it because of his own characteristics - his absence and lack of intensity/stamina/focus.

What he needs are midfielders who will do their job and his job, running for him and freeing him to play more freely - aka Nainggolan. And this guy doesn't exist anymore for him. Vidal would have been perfect, but there's no Vidal either.

Yeah he needs a radja or vidal next to him ideally but I think he could do well without them too. The characteristics of the people around him have to be complementary and compatible and this can come in degrees. Surely if you had better players than hernanes/lemina and Khedira around him, the midfield would have been running much more smoothly. There is also the question of the tactical setup's suitability for him. Pogba was just as lost in that very same midfield if not actually worse and he is supposed to be a much better player.

I would say lack of off the ball movement Lion. I see tjat as the main problem with this team, no movement by our midfielders. We have the same attacking patterns and teams cancel us out quite easily. If only we were half as goos going forwars as we are at defending.

1) Because he has MUCH more time and less pressure and can cherry pick the target, and 70% are sideways passes to bonucci or backwards passes to buffon

2)Cause in a 3-5-2 one cb is always beeing a passing option on the wing, and one of the other cb's will be used to switch to the other flank when the midfield is covered. its one of the reasons a 3-5- 2 is tricky to play against as the defence is very versatile in giving options to switch the play when wanting to keep possession instead of passing into space

3)they are in a shitty form, cause they should be doing much, much better
