we won't win the scudetto, that's inda's title to lose. it won't even be close. happy to be proven wrong of course. i expect a top4 finish which is a must if chiesa and vlahovic stay healthy for the majority of the season

for an eventual coppa win some would say it's a meaningless trophy that even pirlo won with arthur and bentancur
Inter finished last season with 72 points.

In the summer they sold/released Onana, Brozovic, Dzeko, Skriniar, dAmbrosio, Gosens, Correa and some other players, while bringing in Thuram, Pavard, Sommer, Frattesi, Acerbi, Alexis Sanchez , Cuads, Arnautovic, Klaassen and some other players.

I'm not even sure if they've strengthened, what makes them surefire Scudetto favorites? they have better depth, but individually Onana, Skriniar, Brozovic and Dzeko were all core players for them. Inzaghi prolly will do better than last year, but I'm not sure whether thats an 80ish point finish or 90+ points, Inter where one of the Scudetto favorites in his first 2 seasons too.

Imo we definitely should be in the race if its a Scudetto that can be won with 83 points like in 19/20, no excuses there.

i don't think we should evaluate squads based on their mercati and project points based on last season. but let's play this game: we lost di maria and cuadrado, they were replaced by cambiaso and weah, looks like a downgrade. last season we collected 72 points sul campo, yet not collecting 83 points with a weakened squad is inexcusable?

inda have by far the best squad of the league, regardless of their summer transfers, that's what makes them favorites. and this time they grew a lot, frattesi is an excellent addition, thuram isn't much worse than the best strikers of the league, etc. i simply don't see any squad that has similar quality. (just a small detail, acerbi isn't a new addition for them.) for me they were favorites even last year, thankfully they bottled it and napoli had a one-off standout season. it can happen once again, but it's not likely. we'll see. again, happy to be proven wrong by magnanelliventus

I think last season points is a good metric. hard to think of an example where the coach stayed the same and the team suddenly performed 20 points better, usually the improvement is between 10-15 points even with very strong mercato's.

last season Allegri underperformed massively. if he collects 72 points again this season, he will have underperformed massively once more.

yet you expect jj to improve by more than 10 points with a weakened squad?

i'm not saying it's not realistic. i'm saying that last season shouldn't be used as a metric as both inda and jj underachieved

Guyse, hold your horses. The dream is to finish in the top 4.

If refs and Vlahovic don't let us down once again, we can maybe secure 4th spot on the last matchday.

Remember results are secondary atm. Mister is building something special as evidenced by the last game. So sit back, relax and wait for April when Mister works his magic.

That's difficult to say as we now have more preparation time in between matches, injuries seem to be less of an issue now, Vlahovic is looking fitter, chiesa is already better than last season. We may not have improved as such as a squad but the current circumstances are favourable, the gap should be alot closer than last season to say the least.

The squad has the same players technically but we've got Chiesa from the start, plus a much better Fagioli and Gatto. I'm not doing the 'Chiesa is a new signing' thing, but we basically do have a better team now than 12 months ago. Both in terms of available players and our attacking guru.

Plus fewer games, we can expect a much higher points total. I think around 20 is what it'll be.

you mean we'll have +20 points compared to last season?

i hope you're right. that's 92 which usually easily wins a scudetto

Cuadrado and Di Maria didn't play much last season so if our replacements play consistently, it gives us continuity. I wouldn't use points as a metric either, I'd say that we should aim for top 2 given that we have no European football and that a Coppa win should also be a top priority.

For Serie A, this is a very strong squad. We should expect a win against all teams and very few draws. Losing 5-1 to Inter like Milan did is not an option, we should be competitive. In the bad games we have against lower teams, we should be get those ugly wins.

If we any more poor seasons, we'll just become like Chelsea and end up digging ourselves out of that hole will be difficult. Chelsea and Man Utd are in that space and even with monumental investment, they're a mess on and off the pitch.

I think the squad is similar to last season, a lot will depend on injuries. A big positive is no European nights, we might actually survive with only Chiesa as an SS option.

The biggest room for improvement for me 100% is in the coaching department. If we're poor physically, if mentally we're passive and reactive, if there're no patterns and combinations in the final 3rd, we lose a lot of our potential. Hard to measure that in points, but its probably a lot of points.
