He’s had no choice but to do it. Even he can’t justify playing his buddy Paredes anymore. Plus he knows the season is over with and B is still a possibility. But yes, at least credit to him for fielding them. Now get a coach who can actually improve them.
he could have easily gone with 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 like tek - danilo, bremer, rugani, sandro - cuadrado, fagioli, rabiot, kostic - di maria - vlahovic
he also used to play a lot of young players in their early 20's or younger like morata (not last season, but in '15), dybala, bentancur, kean, sturaro, pereyra, alex sandro, etc. and of course miretti, iling and fagioli this season, and now you can probably add barrenechea to the list too. and especially around '15-'18 he had plenty of options too, it's not like injuries forced him to play youngsters. coman is still the only u23 player who should have played much more with allegri
inb4 kulu: he got his chances but he was shit with pirlo and allegri too. physical preparation surely made a part, and the juve jersey is weighty, but as you can see this season, he's not a consistent player at all. a few months ago conte was idolized for making kulu a beast, and he really had an excellent first few months, but nothing special lately. he's got 1 assist and no goals in 2023 iirc? he's a bit of a premtard, maybe he was hyped to finally arrive there that made him perform, and after the honeymoon phase he's back to being quite an average player
back to allegri, my main issue with him this season is more fundamental than cherry picking on selection, formations and stuff like this. the squad is full of compromises, so while i usually agree with those "what a shit lineup" remarks in the match threads, i also find them funny and sad. honestly i can't select a lineup i'd be happy with, even if everyone was available, there would be multiple tradeoffs. anyway, my main issue is the general passivity of the team. this toro had physically stronger players, but if barrenechea, the 21 year old with literally zero minutes of serie a experience, can win 7/9 duels, then toro weren't that special. we still gave up on possession, we still were too passive and reactive, we still didn't press them at all (until fagioli started running like crazy for the 2nd half), we still conceded way too many shots, we still allowed them to win too many important duels, bremer losing his man before the 2nd goal being the most important one. it's a soft team and i can't but blame the coach for it. yeah, we're full of pussies, but still. i mean rabiot is capable of winning 70% of his duels on a regular basis, he won 3/4 ground duels yesterday, which is fine at first sight - but how come he got engaged only in 4 ground duels? wtf is a midfielder doing on the pitch against a physical team? rabiot should have initiated 10-12 ground duels himself, and if he did nothing else but win 8 out of those, and pass the ball to barrenechea, we'd have had a much easier match. number of shots were fine, we scored 4 and hit the bar, it's fine of course, match was more fun to watch than most of our matches this season, we also reacted all right after 0-1 and 1-2 too, so there are a few positives, but fundamentally it's the same unimpressive team. and yeah, players like rabiot, sandro, bremer (he made it to the sofascore team of the week, HOW?!), vlahovic, and 1st half's fagioli could and absolutely should play with a more aggressive attitude.
