Allegri :We broke off Torino which in any case was one point behind and we have to take one step at a time. The thing we did right now, however, is that on the field we scored 50 points, not to mention 52 points, anyway we have 50 points earned on the field. This is the most important thing.“

He did well tonight!! Can’t believe I’m writing this.

Simple act of chancing Baran instead of Paredes was brave. Ignoring Paredes was his man in the first place, this was great.

Not utter drivel!!!

Just some facts…

Berrenechea is the 5th player from our youth team that Allegri plays this year.

The 10th in 2 years…

Criticize him all you want (and most of it deserved) but he is the coach who has put more youngsters in the team in the 32 years I been a Juventus fan…

He’s had no choice but to do it. Even he can’t justify playing his buddy Paredes anymore. Plus he knows the season is over with and B is still a possibility. But yes, at least credit to him for fielding them. Now get a coach who can actually improve them.

The team is certainly not playing or celebrating each goal as if the season is over.

I checked fotmob and it showed a 3-5-1-1 with an all lolzilian backline. Are we in dire straights with defensive options or was this an experiment? Have Bonucci, Rugs and Gatti been phased out?

Pls explain

Not the first time we played an all lolzillian backline.
I know, but you cannot deny that it's an odd selection with Sandro transitioning to LCB. The guy is such a massive defensive liabililty as a FB especially in our own area that it doesn't make sense to deploy him in unfamiliar role.

Again it makes me ask the question - is Sandra in a back 3 with Bummer and Danilo better than one of Rugs, Bonucci or Gatti?

I wonder what the stats indicate. Either way, quite bizzare. Pls discuss.

His days as a LB are far over, and for the first time in years, Sandro is actually somewhat decent. We should obviously not renew unless it's mandatory (thanks to the automatic renewal clause), but Im pleased to see he's been putting in some decent performances this season.

Is he really any better at LCB than those other names? Also, what is the standard btw? Especially when Bremer is only natural CB in todays line up. Is our squad planning so poor that we have to convert another fullback to CB instead of playing those in the depth chart?

Gatti’s been a bit of a failure to me this season and Rugani is more comfortable in the middle. I don’t think either can play on the left for consecutive games. we could maybe move Danilo to the left and put Gatti on the right, but I don’t see how our defense would improve with that move.

And I mean, the bar is as low as the average quality we have at our disposal, and right now Sandro is the best option we have on the left. In an ideal world Sandro wouldn’t even be on our roster and the same goes for someone like Danilo, regardless of how much he’s a fan favorite, should really not be a starter for Juventus.

We’ve simply neglected the defense for the last few years. Not too long ago we though the likes of Romero, Demiral, De ligt we’re going to form our defense and I would have called you crazy if you’d tell me we’d have Danilo and Sandro as CBs in 2023 instead. Our long-term planning here (and many other areas on the field) has been absolutely atrocious.

I said this the other day. If a couple years ago anyone had said we’d be playing 3 man backline with Sandro and Danilo as CBs I’d have said they were insane. It’s crazy how our squad planning has been this awful.

he could have easily gone with 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 like tek - danilo, bremer, rugani, sandro - cuadrado, fagioli, rabiot, kostic - di maria - vlahovic

he also used to play a lot of young players in their early 20's or younger like morata (not last season, but in '15), dybala, bentancur, kean, sturaro, pereyra, alex sandro, etc. and of course miretti, iling and fagioli this season, and now you can probably add barrenechea to the list too. and especially around '15-'18 he had plenty of options too, it's not like injuries forced him to play youngsters. coman is still the only u23 player who should have played much more with allegri

inb4 kulu: he got his chances but he was shit with pirlo and allegri too. physical preparation surely made a part, and the juve jersey is weighty, but as you can see this season, he's not a consistent player at all. a few months ago conte was idolized for making kulu a beast, and he really had an excellent first few months, but nothing special lately. he's got 1 assist and no goals in 2023 iirc? he's a bit of a premtard, maybe he was hyped to finally arrive there that made him perform, and after the honeymoon phase he's back to being quite an average player

back to allegri, my main issue with him this season is more fundamental than cherry picking on selection, formations and stuff like this. the squad is full of compromises, so while i usually agree with those "what a shit lineup" remarks in the match threads, i also find them funny and sad. honestly i can't select a lineup i'd be happy with, even if everyone was available, there would be multiple tradeoffs. anyway, my main issue is the general passivity of the team. this toro had physically stronger players, but if barrenechea, the 21 year old with literally zero minutes of serie a experience, can win 7/9 duels, then toro weren't that special. we still gave up on possession, we still were too passive and reactive, we still didn't press them at all (until fagioli started running like crazy for the 2nd half), we still conceded way too many shots, we still allowed them to win too many important duels, bremer losing his man before the 2nd goal being the most important one. it's a soft team and i can't but blame the coach for it. yeah, we're full of pussies, but still. i mean rabiot is capable of winning 70% of his duels on a regular basis, he won 3/4 ground duels yesterday, which is fine at first sight - but how come he got engaged only in 4 ground duels? wtf is a midfielder doing on the pitch against a physical team? rabiot should have initiated 10-12 ground duels himself, and if he did nothing else but win 8 out of those, and pass the ball to barrenechea, we'd have had a much easier match. number of shots were fine, we scored 4 and hit the bar, it's fine of course, match was more fun to watch than most of our matches this season, we also reacted all right after 0-1 and 1-2 too, so there are a few positives, but fundamentally it's the same unimpressive team. and yeah, players like rabiot, sandro, bremer (he made it to the sofascore team of the week, HOW?!), vlahovic, and 1st half's fagioli could and absolutely should play with a more aggressive attitude.

As of us last night's match we are alone at 2nd place with the points earned on the field.

Our play is still clearly not good enough, but some credit to Allegri still. In a season with an unbelievable amount of injuries, a mismatched and poorly built squad, and a true crisis in management, he has managed to get steady results in the league relative to the competition. That's something he still has, he still knows how to manage a league campaign. Its a shame that we were so poor in the CL, otherwise his work would be more positive. The amount of youngsters he is playing is refreshing too.

When we first got him he was a LWB, we even played him as a LM in a 451 vs Bayern with Evra behind him once. But he is far from that player in attack, I think he is not bad as a defender and he can play out of the back a little as well, so not the worst option to have there. I'd prefer to have someone better and have him as backup on lesser wages tho
