Maybe because we didn't have to play in Europe that season and could afford the immense workrate.
That would be fine if we dropped off when the CL schedule became hectic, but we pretty much never played with that intensity after the first season, we became more and more cautious in many games. Hopefully now we have a bench we can rotate enough to have our engines fresh enough. As opposed to the game against Bayern where our team was dead and they could play a C team in the BuLi and still win.

althought in that game, even with us firing on all cylinders, we were going to get owned. Our gameplan was flawed from minute 1 since we wanted our play to go thru a super pressed Pirlo and that never worked. But that team was so superior to us that no matter what, it seemed it was always going to be an uphill battle.

But yeh, after our first season i believed we were going to own europe and take everyone by surprise with our superb game. Sadly we went backwards... or well, not really backwards but we started playing in a much more conservative way just to "control" games and soak pressure.

It worked in serie A tho... but even then it showed that we lacked when we really wanted to score or when trailing in a game.

Oh yeah Bayern are just simply better. However our team should NOT have been so bad to the point we ventured into their half like twice in 90 minutes, having 1 pot shot. It was pathetic

Far, far too conservative.

They really owned us hardcore. The most hardcore pwning under Conte. But yes, i think for a team of our caliber, is inexcusable to not even put a fight.
Then we had games like Galatasaray at home, and the icing on the cake...the benfica game in turin ..which simply was the icing on the cake for me.

I am still a huge fan of Conte mind you and he's overall better than Allegri imo

However yeah I still hold a grudge over his small minded attitude concerning us in Europe. Not only in comments but how in many big games we pretty much accepted we were the underdogs and never even attempted to control games which was crap, considering the personnel in our midfield is ridiculous.

Conte will probably come back one day, probably as an even better manager.
I just hope so to happen sooner better than latter although I think that he is a better player motivator than tactician.
