With counters i mean as in "a counter to their playstyle"

AJax is extremely predictable. From all the formations against that, we picked a very poor setup
But the general play of our team we take couple of seconds to decide whom to pass when we are pressed by the Ajax players I felt we missed mandzukic today I know he is not in great form we missed his hold up play

Don’t really care if he stays or not.

Sell Dybala, get Felix and WC CM and I’m happy. I’m sure we will get another CB too.

Anyone still believe that he's the best coach in the world?

That used to be a very popular opinion on here.
Pretty opportunistic time to ask that around here after such loss. I think Allegri is widely regarded as a top 5 coach. Zidane was and probably still is first in many books after three consecutive CLs.

There arent good options to replace Allegri at the moment. Conte is useless in europe.
Zidane went back to Real. Pep is not leaving Man City.

Anyway the defense let us down today. Bonucci needs to go and Rugani isnt good enough. We need to sign a top defender in the summer considering Chiellinis age and injury issues.
Rugani, Sandro need to be sold ASAP this summer. Rugani doesn't deserve the new contract.

But dude I agree if it was 2018 Cancelo but when he came on and in Amsterdam he never went for the kill.
Always crosses for none never trying to dribble and run past players and he never did.

Ajax aren't some monsters but we simply never shooted toward the goal.
We scored twice with 2 headers and no other relevant shots toward the game.
We never managed to get in the penalty area.
Nothing simply nothing!
We played tried some cross but thats it.

And people still fail to understand that Allegri had to go after Cardiff period
We could win Serie A literally with any coach.
I mean anyone here in the forum could what Allegri does in Serie A.
All he is decent at is managing players.

But not even that. Look how Dybala regressed in the past 2 years.
Totally killed our star oh and he has totally no clue or game plan.

I mean when we had 3-5-2 with Mandzukic and Dybala as strikers we were much better than this shit
Ajax beat the crap out of Real as well. Current generation are extremely good. You can pin the blame on whomever you please, but the fact is, we got outplayed in every segment. Our players have always looked like second best, losing duels all over the place. It was frustrating to watch how awful we looked.

This notion that Conte isn't good in Europe is debunked. He didn't play a lot of them and in the first one he actually did very good with a below average Juve team. With Chelsea Barca barely knocked his team out.

Having said that, I'm sick of Italian managers. They are way behind in world football.

lol how did we believe in this team with this utterly weak defense and midfield?
This. This is what annoys me, the fucking delusion. We had a GOAT and we thought we can walk past Ajax. We escaped an Atletico, we barely played half decent football and that's me being kind. Yet the results came and the delusion grew. We play outdated football and truly are the old lady that needs some plastic surgery if we ever fucking want to see that trophy ever again. I wouldnt have been upset if we at least found a way to play against this Ajax but we were totally humiliated even though (yet again) the result never looks bad. Extremely disappointed but I'll be fine maybe in a week but us fans don't deserve this, really don't.

our players looked like Zombies! bar the first 30mins.
Then in the second half we simply gave up pressing and Ajax with the quality they have they could whatever they wanted.
If they shooted to the goal instead of always passing in our small penalty area they could've easly win 4-1 in Amsterdam and replicate.
Real had a bad game/season at home but they won 3-1 in Amsterdam.
We never came close to anything.
Tell me if we ever managed to shoot to the goal in 2 games!! we simply never did and had 2 headers.
THATS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! not creating any chances in 180mins.
IF we had a third of the chances they created we would have scored 5-6 goals. easly.
We simply coudn't do anything in attack. While you claim we beat them in every position...

for example, Matuidi is a man down when we have the basll and are pressed like that. like what is his role in that case? hes great at chasing opponents when they hold the ball most of the time, and after they scored their 1st Ajax just let us play right into their hands. Bentancur was fantastic in the 1st game and someone we needed much earlier (not instead of Berna though). Cancelo-MdS obviously and Dybala. though not having Mandzukic and CHiellini hurt us bad, this was still doable
Not having Mandzukic and Chiellini was a game decider.

With Mandzukic we had the edge to just long pass it over the defence and be dangerous from there. While with Chiellini, that second goal never ever happens, and you actually can play more seated back.

So we havent. Fine.

Ajax will press and their fullbacks will doubke/triple up all the time.

- Playing De Sciglio is idiotic. He stays deep so they come and so do crosses. Hello Rugani.
- Playing Dybala is idiotic too. He needs the ball played out to him, but everyone is very deep. If he was in big form and able to hold a ball, it might be a lil different

What we needed, was a way to make sure they kill themselves when overcommitting all the time. Cancelo, Sandro, Kean, Berna on the wings. Keep at any time 2 high and make one other double up. If Ajax keeps their backs high ? Fine. Have cancello run at your centrebacks with space and ronaldo diving in there

With 2 players high whenever we recover there are always 2 targets to go for, and with aggressive pressing behind them in case ajax recovers, we are right on the second ball. Matuidi makes sense in that regard

We however didnt do any of that. Sit back with little counter threat and force ronaldo to drop off all the time.

I honestly don't know what the problem is.

I actually still rate Allegri highly but we have to look at why we failed.

Is it because the midfield and defence isn't strong enough? Probably. Who is at fault for that? Marotta? Is Allegri satisfied by it.

Are we too far ahead in Serie A that we lose all intensity? Possibly. But surely Allegri should encourage the team to thrash teams instead or energy conserving.

Is Allegri not implementing enough tactics going forward? Probably, we seem incapable of playing through the middle.

Interesting to hear what Max has to say in the presser. After the game he looked like a beaten man, I think he might need a break. It's mentally quite draining to manage a top team where expectations are sky high for five years.

Starting dybala was the worst blunder

Mandzukic would allow several players to long ball to either him or Ronaldo, with Cancelo bursting down the opposite flank

Missed alot yes
