That wasn't a very passionate throw :D

There are some matches where I ask myself if we're a sleeping giant. We are scoring 3 goals per match so far this year while last year it was only 2. That kind of increase in attack is worthy of praise. Then you look at the defence and it's worse. But is it worse enough to negate our attack? I don't think that's true.

But the big factor for me is the RB position because last year we had Alves in the 2nd half and you could legitimately say that at times our RB was the best player on the pitch. This year, however, you can definitively say our RB (whoever it is) is easily the worst player on the pitch. Our RB is offering nothing in attack and nothing in defence.

So I wonder how much difference someone like Howedes makes. An option that offers nothing offensively but surely makes a big difference in set pieces and defensively. Sometimes going from the absolute worst option to average can make a big difference.

Then there are even smaller variables like Dybala's PK misses which have cost us 3 points. If he scores them, the "cracks are papered over" quite well. VAR decisions have not always been beneficial either.

TLDR: I think our ceiling is a lot higher than last year but we just aren't seeing it yet.
:agree: :agree:

Hopefully, management acts and the January window proves to be more fruitful then it usually is for us. We need a strong signing in defense, someone who can play either RB or CB at a level this club needs. Considering our strength in attack this season and our added creative options on the wings, I don't think we need another Dani Alves, just someone who can reliably defend and maintain possession much better than Licht, MDS, or Stu.

With that, and the addition of Howedes and Marchisio returning from injury, we should look a much better and more balanced team, allowing our strength in attack to flourish unimpeded by the defensive weaknesses we've seen so far.

Jury is still out, all the way around.

We basically haven't beaten a team of real quality yet this season. Sporting, and Olympiakos were important wins, but they don't really fall into that category for me. Wins against Cagliari, Genoa, Chievo, Sassuolo, Fiorentina, Torino, Udinese, Spal -- meh. A draw against a solid but depleted Atalanta. And there have been a lot of opportunities that our lesser opponents have not punished us for.

I would say the quality opponents we've played so far are Lazio, and Barcelona. Where we conceded 8 times in 3 games.

Definitely need to see some serious improvements at the back before we can think about legitimately contending in the CL.

Defense needs a lot of work. We look shaky, even against mediocre fucks like Paloschi and Spal. Hopefully, Max can figure something out before things get serious in the CL.

We also have this tendency to switch off and lose focus; we need to maintain concentration for the 90+ minutes; otherwise, big teams will definitely punish us for that, as we clearly saw against Lazio (twice) and Barcelona.

Good stats tho. Max is starting to get this offense to tick.

What’s great is it’s not ONLY our strikers scoring but our mid/wingers/defenders too

Or fix our issues in the winter mercato: Spinazzola, de Vrij.

I sense that once all our center midfielders are back we will once again go to a 3 man midfield.
3-5-2? Rugani, Chiellin, and Barza marshaling the defense, Sandro and Costa/Cuadrado on the wings, Matuidi, Marchisio, and Pjanic in midfield, with Dybala and Higuain in attack?! :boh:

Obviously, returning to a 3 man midfield might mean benching Mandukic, and I'm not sure Allegri wants to, or should, do that.

This is our best squad since the Juve Renaissance (post 2012). The reason being is that our squad is that for the first time, our squad looks like it has depth. Seeing us replace quality with quality is much pleasing, and to see that Costa didn't indicates that we've moved on from having linear squads.

My favorite coach of all time. Way to go Max, no matter who leaves, arrives, injuries, he always knows how to get the best out of his players. Just does his job without any fuss. No drama.
