The only thing i blame Allegri for is playing Pjanic as a CM and not as a DM. I am personally convinced that we would play much better if Alegri would just switch Lemina and Pjanic. Regarding tonights game, Allegri was amazing, but he was betrayed by his players in midfield and Dani Alves. Spot on tactically tonight.

We really really need to adapt modern top team way of playing, wingers and attacking midfielders... Right now we only have 2 2nd rate wingers in pjaca and cuadrado, even if we can't buy the top ones we need to get more of them and then we need to start really playing with them, also some attacking midfielders...

Vidal came very cheap, Pirlo was for free as was Pogba while Marchisio was homegrown. Similarly, Chiellini and Barzagli cost us nothing and bonnucci was not really expensive. We recently invested heavily in attack (Dybala, Manzu, Higuain) and tried to replace those who are growing old or leaving on the cheap (Alves, Cuad, Ben Atia, Rugani, Khedira) etc.. but it will take a miracle to find another vidal, pogba or pirlo on the cheap like that simply because the supply of quality CMs is very little.

There never were cheap available top wingers (the way Vidal and Pirlo were top and cheap). Cuadrado and Pjaca are obviously not good enough for a wing based formation to be our main one if we want to compete with the big boys. Who would you buy or have bought in the last few seasons? Good ones like Di Maria are insanely pricey and like you said we would need a winger for each side. Even Bayern in their superior wealth and buying power are and will continue to struggle to replace Robben and Ribery. There simply are no top wingers available for sale anymore, and when there is the richer clubs will snatch them for crazy amounts. 3-5-2 and 4-3-1-2 will have to do. Just get a great central midfield again.

Or 4-4-2. We have an almost perfect side for it, if we get one Vidal-esque CM to partner either Cheesio or Pjanic. Khedira-Pjanic or Cheesio-Pjanic would be a little light on ball-winning to play the Lippi style 4-4-2 of our 2003 CL run.

If we could swap out one of Marchisio or Pjanic for Vidal, that's a beastly formation. To make it even more attack minded, you could sub Pjaca for Evra, and drop Sandro to fullback. Just needs that ball-winning 6. Pre-injury Mourinho era Khedira could have done it. But he doesn't seem to have the energy to do it anymore. Saul from Atletico Madrid would probably be perfect beside Marchisio or Pjanic there if he continues to develop into a world class player. Kante is another that would be amazing there beside Pjanic. @Osman

Yep, the 3-5-2 has shown it's limitations in Europe and it's time to ditch it there. I'm all for keeping it in Serie A though since our players suit the system and it works well there against the poverty sides, but when we face better teams it leaves a lot to be desired in attack. Sevilla, Inter, Lyon.... those are the only ''good'' teams we have faced this season and are probably also the three worst performances.

The 4-3-1-2 is an option, and I'd like to try Pjanic as a trequartista once Marchisio returns. His best qualities are offensive minded and he has a great shot. Lemina and Khedira are physical runners who win the ball and move it forward, while Marchisio dictates play. IMO the strongest possible line-up with our crop of players. If we start going 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 we need to start fielding more of Cuadrado, Pjaca etc.

We nees to stwitch the bulk of the play from our mids and regista, to a Treq or offensive players. name it 4312, 4321 or 433. Any of them is worth a try.

Right now, 352 depends way too much on our midfield to have an A game.. and they are being very inconsistent.

He experimented with 4312 with vidal as a false treq and it worked. I dont know how he cannot try that formation once again with the superior defence and forwards we have. We need to find the right formula for the midfield to pass the ball to our forwards and support them, instead of them being the responsible of creating.

Buying witsel matuidi and the likes of yet another cm are just a waste of resources, we would be better get the wingers and attacking midfielders version of them.

Top CMs are not enough but they are necessary. I cant think of a single top team that didnt have great CMs. We need to buy CMs regardless of the formation of choice. And second rate wingers wont cut it and will probably leave us worse than playing centrally with a CAM.

thats why we have Pjaca. if you need more offense you just make one sub
