Allegri said that the players were sitting too deep and he did not ask for this in the first half.

The players couldn't make couple of passes because psychologically it affected them and I guess they didn't expect Bayern's approach to be this fast in the first half.

Allegri will handle the second leg well. It's enough for me that he believes in this, I know others would have given up already ;).

It's not his fault that players showed no character in the first half and couldn't string 2-3 easy passes together. His instructions were good, but sadly the execution was terrible. In the end it doesn't matter, since we're still very much in the game and I think we finally got this inferiority complex vs Bayern out of our system after last night's heroic comeback.

Its time italian coaches start to teach high pressing game from attackers and midfielders throughout the whole game. That is a half of defensive job, modern game evolved and italians are seriously lagging.Bayern showed how ancient italian game is in the first half.

The fact stands that we werent awarded a clear penalty and if Mandzo scored that amazing chance he got in the 2nd minute of the game when he decided to shoot with his left foot instead of trying to dribble and closer to goal, we all would have been singing a different tune.

The game yesterday represents everything I love and hate about Italian football. The first half we decided to sit Deep. Nothing wrong with that but as Vialli_92 said we had intention of attacking just trying to defend the 0-0. The problem with that is that a fantastic attacking team like Bayern just moves more players to attack and we will concede eventually. I mean Vidal was Bayern last man, when in posetion and he was standing in the middle of our half ffs. We also played without aggresion which has been a problem in a lot of matches this year.
In the second half we turned up the aggression. We startet to hassling, kicking, arguing with the Bayern players, got under their skin, played with passion and WC transition football and we almost won the game. We got the gameplan wrong in the first half but I am proud to be a fan of a team that never gives up and has that winning spirit.
For the return leg we need Alex Sandro, Chiellini and Pereyra in there instead of Licht, Evra and Khediara in a 3-5-2. Pereyra was pivotal for our counterattacking game last year. Cuadrado, Pereyra, Pogba, Alex Sandro, Morata and Dybala can really hurt this Bayern team in transitions. Bayern are incredible strong when attacking but also vulnerable in defense and I think we can do it if the tactic is wright in the return leg.

Good post. I think Napoli and in some degree Fiorentina uses the high pressing game and it has done wonders for them.

He should've expected that Bayern will pin us back with the high pressing, sitting too deep is not the problem, it's mandatory against this kind of teams ( Barca, Bayern) but the problem is whenever we recoverd the ball we gave it back to them easily. It was Allegri's job to come out with a plan to get out of this. If Bayern didn't take their foot of the gas in the second half due to fatigue and thinking they had the game in the bag, we would never made a comeback.

Eh ?
We were doing that under Conte but not just against the big teams lol
We did it when we were playing the 4-3-3 which produced the best performances under Conte. Went away from it since we started playing the 3-5-2

This. Pereyra will be crucial in our 2nd leg game. We NEED his directness when recovering balls in our own half. We need him and cuadrado (if he plays), to take the game on them and prepare counters and win 1v1s. That way we will force Bayern to be cautious of leaving players dueling alone against them and forced to go back some meters giving us breathe to operate.

Our lack of pressing and counters gave them free pass to own us in the first half. Never again. We respected them waay too much and our personnel was not up to it until almost too late. When hernanes came in, since he had nothing to lose he started to play direct football and it helped us a lot.

and I think we finally got this inferiority complex vs Bayern out of our system after last night's heroic comeback.
And this. I think that a big part of our horrendous first half was because our psychological trauma from last time. The owning was too hardcore. Im hoping that we are beyond that and we need to be full aware that if we want it we can get it...but we need to show them less respect and force them to at the very least be careful of our attacks.

I repeat, if we do not make them respect our 3/4 of the field, we will not win this game.

Sturaro: 'Allegri planned it all’

Stefano Sturaro reveals Juventus Coach Max Allegri planned his goal against Bayern Munich.

The combative midfielder scored the Bianconeri’s equaliser in the Champions League tie on Tuesday, surging into the penalty area to reach Alvaro Morata’s headed cross.

“In the days leading up to it, Allegri had shown me videos of a similar situation at Bologna where I hadn’t made that gamble,” Stuaro explained to Tuttosport.

He told me I had to get into the box, without thinking about anything else. We worked on it a bit, and I put it into practice the first chance I got.

“It went quite well…”

The Old Lady recovered from two goals down to take a draw in the first leg, but are underdogs for the game in Bavaria.

“We have to go there with other beliefs and more certainty. There’s regret, because we could have done a bit better. Their pressure made us lose a bit of confidence in ourselves.

We found it again though, and after seeing our second half performance we’re confident.”

This was a very winnable game and that first 60 minutes from Allegri completely screwed us of any chance to win the game. For a coach of his experience I am still surprised he went with parking the bus for so long. We had no counter attack to get up the pitch quick enough so it was never going to work.

If he had of started Morata instead of Mandzukic we at least would have had a counter attack so I wouldn't really criticise him too much. How ever we now have a mountain to climb in Munich to go through.

I hope we can knock them out but i would give Bayern a 65% chance to go through in the second leg. It's not impossible but it will be very difficult.
