Well, Tom banned Burke's new account by the name of "Petrovich" without any reason and took no action against Claire, even though it was her fourth account I presume. No reasons given, however it's probably the same case as John and Claire, of course minus the provocation seen here.

I've got to rush, and don't really feel like spending all evening justifying myself anyway. So, in summary:
Yes, a mod can ban arbitrarily. However, we do tend to restrain ourselves. I did not ban Claire because I don't like her. Truth be known, I don't really care about her either way.

If you're not familiar with the expression "the straw that broke the camel's back", I suggest you look it up. She hasn't been banned before for no reason. She logged on this afternoon and posted a plethora of mindless insults at random members. She was just looking to get a rise.

In a word, bollocks. I give up some of my time to moderate here because I like to give something back to a forum I've enjoyed participating in. I don't need abuse over it, especially from some spiteful fool who thinks she can just go around insulting people. Well, no, this place is built on mutual respect. That's both in the rules and in the praxis. If you disagree, petition Marty to reinstate Claire. If he agrees, I'll step down. This place needs her like a fire in the server.

I have no reason to. I don't do that. I've never seen a mod here do that.

Yeah, TBH even I think it was a bit harsh. Actually, waaaay too harsh if she was banned for this alone, but I really cant comment on her other actions, we'll just have to trust mikhail.
