BTW the other day I had to convert 300 pics from jpeg to tiff & it was not fun. Care to expound on the batch processing for this?

Depends on your specific requirements. For basic batch processing, I've used Macromedia Fireworks. Say you have 100 images that you want to convert to jpg/gif, resize, compress etc. Will do it for you.

the hardest way (apart from manually) would be using photoshop actions

or you could use the batch processing in PS Elements

ACDSee also has a similar function, as does Paint Shop Pro IIRC.

you can also try IrfanView or ImageMagick

btw why would u want to convert lossy jpegs to lossless tiffs? If anything you'd probably want to go the other way around for compression reasons....

I was there a few years ago, lovely city. Didn't take any pics at the time as I didn't have a camera but I surely will this time.

If you're going during the summer try to visit Oland, it's one of two islands east of Sweden. It's very nice there during the summer, the biggest town there is Borgholm with a population of 10.000. There is a two week summer festival every year, and the royal family have a summer house there, right by the old Borgholm castle. Princess Victoria used to celebrate here birthdays there. Also, it has some great sandy beaches, and it's not very cold either. It may not have much of a nightlife, but Kalmar is just an hour or two away.
