Category: Match Reports

We really hope we won't have to be back to the Stadio Danilo Martelli. Two matches, two losses. After the 1-0 suffered with Mantova at their home pitch, Juventus also lost against Brescia, wich has clearly made a good choice, opting for a neutral pitch. The match ended 3-1 with a triple hit by Serafini, and a goal by Del Piero, all in the first half.

A bad day, but not to be totally thrown away. Napoli and Genoa drew, and Piacenza won, as Bologna did on the rebound. The Bianconeri are still on top, having a one point lead over Napoli, and five over Bologna and Piacenza.

Deschamps, after three consecutive win, wanted to have four, and sent to the neutral pitch of Mantova the most experienced of the team. Having to make choices, he chose Zebina and Camoranesi in defence of the right area, leaving Birindelli and Marchionni on the bench. The rest of the team was the same: Buffon in the goal area, Boumsong, Chiellini, Zanetti and Giannichedda in the midfield; Balzaretti and Nedved to control the left area; Del Piero and Trezeguet strikers.

As in the first round, the challenge between the Bianconeri and Brescia is immediately deep. This time thanks to the home team, that started energetically. Buffon had soon to stop two balls on the box edge, but he had to surrender at the 4th minute. The match started again instantly and Serafini, while the World Champion Goalkeeper was in a forward posion, played a long ball over the top that got over. Juventus reacted immediately. De Marco whistled two consecutive penalties, at a few inches from Viviano's area. For the first penalty, the Brescia players in the area fend; the second, kicked in a mastery manner by Del Piero, ended just near the most distant box edge. At the 10th minute Juve drew.

After the end of a very intense first half, it was time for a more peaceful half. Brescia slowed down its rhythm, and Juventus took over, not shaking up the game. This absolute balance lasted 15 minutes, untill the 26th minutes, when Brescia attacked again. From a corner action, Hamsik found his way to the centre, and Serafini confirmed his state of grace, beating Buffon again with a spectacular turn in the air. This time took Nedved and mates a bit more time to react, but they went through a very intense moment on around the 30th minutes: first a penalty kicked by Del Piero; then, a deflected try by Zanetti; and then, a parried header by Boumsong. These are the notes of the Juventus report. But at this point, supremacy was once again clear, and Brescia players were forced to step back.

At around the 40th minutes, the Bianconeri had to regret twice. Camoranesi fouled Del Nero, and got a yellow card which will disqualify him for the match against Treviso. A placed kick followed and Santacroce, playing on the side, was close to have a three. Juventus cut the time short to get a draw before the break but instead, it got back to the changing room with a double disadvantage. Serafini will remember this afternoon for a long time. After already beating Buffon twice, he made his personal three of goals with an incredible long distance right foot: 3-1, and everybody out for the break.

Juventus got back to the match with Marchionni instead of Camoranesi. Viviano immediately intervened on a cross by Nedved. It was Del Nero the one who put the Bianconeri at risk with a solo counterattack. This is what happended: the Bianconeri were pushing to be back in the game, Brescia was ready to start again with speed; Del Piero tried to make his magic kicking a penalty, but the bar saved. On the other side of the pitch, Del Nero and Lima tried as well, but the result didn't change. At this point, Deschamps tried to play his card replacing Balzaretti with Palladino.

Tension had grown. De Marco was forced to give yellow cards. He admonished Piangerelli, but he then spared on him for another intervention on Del Piero. Cosmi took out Del Nero, and called Zambrella. Juventus had a try, but infront of Viviano there were a human barrier. When Trezeguet got wrong a turn just a few metres from Viviano, it was well uhnderstood that today was not the Juvents day. Cosmi also called Stankevicius to reinforce once more the defence. After onother header by Nedved, that ended on the side, Deschamps played his latest card: Bojinov in, and Zebina out. At this point the team had been revolutionized, but the time left was few, and there was the need to risk everything. Cerci entered in Brescia. There was a continuous forcing with no effects despite the many corners obteined.
The end has been 3-1, but after the results of the other matches, it could have ended worse.
