Moggi confirms Sagnol interest
Saturday 3 December, 2005
Juventus transfer guru Luciano Moggi has confirmed that Bayern’s Willy Sagnol is on his way, but denied a bid for Antonio Cassano.
“We are interested in Sagnol,” he told 'Dribbling.’ “If we have the chance to sign him, then we will do so. Considering we have a lot of French players in the squad, I suppose he might be eager to join them.”
The French international’s contract expires at the end of the season and Bayern Munich have confirmed over the past week that they believe he’ll move to Juve on a free transfer.
However, Moggi was again eager to cut short rumours of a £3m January switch for Roma contract rebel Cassano.
“We don’t need Cassano and I can categorically rule out a January arrival. We have a team that is built for success over the next two to three years and we want to maintain that project intact. We hope to win the Scudetto and Champions League this season.”
Nonetheless, the Italian newspapers are not about to start believing Moggi’s denials, as the director general is famous for leading the Press down the garden path.
Moggi’s future has been called into doubt recently with reports of a move to Inter, while Fabio Capello has stated his contract extension depends on the presence of the 'Triade’ – Moggi, Roberto Bettega and Antonio Giraudo.
“There is an important connection with the Juventus owners and we want to stay, so we’ll discuss it in January. I have an excellent rapport with Inter owner Massimo Moratti, regardless of the recent discussions between the two clubs.”
