I was worried when Ranieri were saying this or that about Aussie players and how he admires them, because I couldnt see one who could be so useful for us if he wants them. But never considered this guy, he is really overqualified in being Buffons vice. Not sure why he would want to do it over regular football, but besides Cudicini, he would be the best backup goalie on the market.

the only reasonable option is the financial one. He has to think about his future, once he retires. So it is most likely that he will get higher wages if he joins Juve. Does anyone know how much he gets paid at his current club?>

Mark wont go we are in WC qualifiers they are massive matches, he will not come to Juve to sun bake on the bench!
His biggest weakness is free kicks and corners otherwise he is a terrfic goalstopper.

Schwarzer Weighing Up Boro Offer

Middlesbrough have offered their Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer a new deal, though signs are that they are actually already resigned to him leaving for a new adventure.

According to Italian press reports, Juventus have arranged a meeting next Monday with the 35-year-old's representatives in a bid to thrash out a free transfer move for the player. With German giants also believed to be interested, Boro boss Gareth Southgate has conceded that he is already making plans for a future without the Australian.

"We have decided that we would make him an offer and we are in negotiations with him but I'm aware he has got other options," said Southgate.

"If we can keep Mark it would be good, his experience is important for us."

"He might feel that he has been a fantastic servant for the club and is ready for a change himself," he added.

"In the end Mark has to want to stay here. If he doesn't, I've got two very good young goalkeepers and it's maybe the time to give them their opportunity."

Now that he is officially a free-agent, Schwarzer represents a bargain buy for interested parties, with whom he has evidently already opened discussions.

I would probably prefer him to Schwarzer.

Sorensen is less likely to be brilliant, but less likely to make stupid mistakes.

I'm not too keen on Schwarzer. Neither Sorensen. Plus, isn't Cristiano Novembre a potential shot stopper for the future? Otherwise how is a youngster supposed to get first team experience.

Juve NEED to either buy quality or nurture the quality. And ex-quality overgrown players coming to Juve for retirement is just pointless IMO. Buffon is 30 years old already, he still has a good 5-6 years ahead of him. Now is the time to nurture a decent youngster like Novembre so that he eventually takes Buffon's #1 role in the future, should he retire/part ways.

a youngster cant be nurtured on the bench
whoever we sign will not see much of the field, only in Coppa Italia or if king Gigi gets injured or needs some rest.
Novembre should be loaned out to a lower ranked serie a team for vital experience. Though still i dont see anyone dislodging Gigi from his position for a very long time.
For his backup, we need someone experienced, Schwarzer or Sorensen would be good enough to back him up IMO.
