Gomez Extends Stuttgart Stay Until 2012
Stuttgart have extended the contract of national team striker Mario Gomez until 2012.
Team manager Horst Heldt made the announcement on Monday evening, which brings to an end mounting speculation that the player would be moving to Juventus.
“I won’t let this team fall apart, or let players have their heads turned” Heldt told a meeting of club members.
“The extension of his contract by a year shows that Mario is not thinking about other clubs. Despite the interest shown by a number of clubs in the past weeks, he has never thought about a move” he added.
“We are delighted that he has pledged his future to Stuttgart and our long-term plans include him.”
The 22 year old, who has been at the club since 2001, scored 14 goals in 25 league appearances last season. He played a considerable role in clinching Stuttgart’s fifth Bundesliga title.
This form led to his international debut for Germany in February against Switzerland. He has scored 3 goals in 3 appearances.
