The 54-year-old former Germany international also touched on Bayern's Mario Gotze and Schalke youngster Julian Draxler, both of whom he does not believe have the mentality required to reach the top level.

"They are good, young and technically sound, but they do not have the character of a champion.

"There is always something missing for them to be at 100 per cent. If you're Götze and not playing, then go to the coach and he puts you on. But he does not do that.

"The two are not guys like Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo or Arturo Vidal."

Thats Matthaus btw

The whole quote (for the sake of interest):

"Khedira went to Turin because Real Madrid do not want any more, otherwise we'd never seen in Serie A. Draxler Gotze and are very good, young and technicians, but do not have the character of a champion. Always they are missing something. Juve have to change your style of play, after outputs Pirlo, Vidal and Tevez. They sought a régisseur to replace Pirlo, but Khedira is injured, it is not that type of player and Mandzukic is not Tevez. The output of Vidal is a great loss. I love Vidal, the make the difference at Bayern. Like me, he is a leader and can attack and score. Returning to Juventus, I still think they are the strongest team in Italy "

Pretty much what I thought, looking from afar.

Yeah, Bayern, listen to Matheus. Sell him to us...

(and we'll build his character...Juve does that to players)

You know though, the dumb thing about that comment is that he is comparing too raw players at the beginning of their careers to three veterans who have built their resumes over a decade, and have definitely had their characters evolved over their career.

Pirlo at the beginning of his career was a slightly above average trequartista, until he got pushed into a regista role. He just got better as his experience improved.
Tevez was known as a problem (no one would consider him a Champion at city). He really came around at Juventus.
Vidal is a beast, but he was much more limited when he first arrived.

It isn't fair to assess either Draxler or Gotze until they are older. It is easier to make that assessment on a player like Ozil.

Thats allright. Marchisio fitted in that category before he got the Conte treatment.

Plenty of players around, who are very very good, but not champions that carry a team. Doesnt matter. Get someone else to do that, and they will shiny very bright

Look at bonucci and chiellini. Very poor at the start. Barzagli came and look at bonucci now. He grew his inner beard
