Fox soccer is a pay station, right? (Even if you have Direct TV, you have to pay extra?)
It's usually not part of a basic package.

But then if you call up and speak in Spanish, you never know. ;)

Take Dish Network for example. You want GolTV, it's part of their super-premium channel package, where you pay to get 4 billion channels, including radio emissions from Jupiter.

But if you get their basic Latino package, which pretty much includes little more than Sabado Gigante and reruns of Ricky Ricardo on I Love Lucy for a few bucks a month, you'll get plenty of GolTV and other football (soccer) coverage.

Ahh, the drawbacks of being born a gringo. I'm in the wrong marketing demographic. ;)

GolTV is broadcast in Spanish primarily. It has an English audio channel, but I believe (on DishNetwork at least) it's not something you can just turn on with SAP. What DishNetwork does, for example, is broadcast GolTV on two separate channels -- one with each language audio track.

GolTV and Fox soccer channel are available on Dish Network's "America's top 180" for $45/month

If you want RAI International, add $12 more dollars per month

ive had gol tv for a couple years now and i cant figure out how to get it in english. i always hear its available but ive never been able to figure it out. you have any idea how?

gol tv is better than rai anyways as the picture is usually 3 times better and it doesnt cut out as much during live matches

Yeah -- RAI broadcasts are lame. The announcers are mediocre at best. The broadcast quality is often just this side of a 200kbps Internet video stream, and they have occasional cut outs, sound outs, etc. I can't tell you how many times I've heard announcers cough several times straight into an open mike.

That said, it's the cultural experience I really go for with RAI. I could see more Serie A matches on GolTV, etc., but watching Serie A in English or Spanish really leaves me with the straniero experience. It's great to be able to turn on the TV news like last May and to see the news reports coming out of Turin for all the fans who drove into town after the Palermo-Milan match. That, and well, I continue my attempts to learn Italian to appreciate the football and culture in a greater context.

With RAI losing the domestic terrestrial rights to broadcast Serie A matches, I am hoping that they might license a feed from MediaSet, or Sky or whatnot, to repackage for international distribution. And with that, hopefully the video and booth quality would improve.

As for GolTV in English, I know you live right across the Bay. If you get it through DishNetwork, there's channel 407 which broadcasts in English ... though I think you need access to a second satellite to get that here. Otherwise, it's Spanish on channel 853.

Well, according to SoccerTV at least (which I find often inaccurate until game day, btw), RAI Int'l should be broadcasting either the Ascoli vs AC Milan or Inter Milan vs Treviso match as part of La Grande Giostra...

...and, more importantly, showing the Juventus vs Chievo match afterwards. :D :D :D

Ahhh,, crappy video quality and announcers, here I come!

Actually, what I am seeing now seems to indicate that RAI Int'l will be airing four games this coming opening weekend... instead of the usual max of two. That would be sweet if so.

Maybe if MediaSet also won the domestic rights for the CL, we'd get all the CL matches on RAI Int'l that they won't show here on ESPN27 for that matter. :D

    yep :D

    RAI Int.

    Livorno-Lecce Saturday 12pm LIVE

    Fiorentina-Sampdoria Saturday 2:30pm LIVE

Ascoli-AC Milan or Inter Milan-Treviso Sunday 9am LIVE

    Juventus-Chievo 4:30pm Sunday Tape Delay

+ I get the Juve game LIVE on TLN, the other of Ascoli-AC Milan or Inter Milan-Treviso and possibly the Lazio-Messina on FSW Canada.

So that'S a possiblity of up to 6 games per weekend of Serie A for me. :thumb:
