Their problem is clearly they both don't offer defensive solidity as much as what Loca can offer
They're not either solid AMs who can perform that role properly. No complaints about Thuram, for the amount we paid he is good enough and still has a lot of room to develop and build his talent.
But Luiz was overrated and overvalued. If it were up to me I would have paid 20/25m.

We don't need solid. We need exceptional.

"Solid" players is why we are mediocre.
We won Scudetti with Giaccherini and Pepe as wingbacks and Matri and Vucinic as forwards. We reached a CL final with Roberto Pereyra as a protagonist nr 10 in a knockout game vs Dortmund. Etc. The best Juve side have always relied on a mix of the exceptional, solid, smart and grinta.

Point being, if big money attacking signings like Vlahovic, Koopmeiners, Gonzalez etc stay fit and start delivering consistently we will be fine with the Locatelli of Wednesday doing the dirty work behind them.

He is not a creative midfielder nor a goal scoring midfielder, If he takes DM role he can contribute in defense phase and improve the squad drastically with delivers through balls and make crucial passes but putting him in AM spot would kill creativity in the middle.

He's statistically the third best midfielder in the league and the best in one certain statistic, I can't remember what it was. But something obviously not so easy to see while watching.
If he is third best midfielder in the league then the league has regressed even more then I thought.
