I've seen a lot of folks complain about there not being a "capture the flag" game in MAG like they have in COD, but isn't Sabotage like capture the flag? You have to go secure or destroy data centers, which is basically like capture the flag with a realistic twist.

Also, some don't like how you don't get to have many options in terms of weapons when you start the game, which is lazy at best. The game gives you incentive to continue on.

The great thing about the game is that there really is little lag. Very impressive how they fixed that up nicely.
That is "Headquarters" mode in COD, not "Capture-the-flag".

Yeah, barely notice lag even in Dominition when its like 100+ in same area.

And yeah, seriously, Sabotage IS improved version of capture the flag. And strictly speaking, the basic goal of take the enemies vehicle in aquisition, despite having TONS of other stuff in that awesome mode, is also like capture the flag. Penetrate 64 strong enemy lines with 8 bunkers, Anti Air batteries, mortar batterier, sensor batteries, gates, roadblocks, big transport base, going through all that AND steal their vehicle and drive away with it intact, thats like super awesome version of capture the flag :D
Aquisition is pretty sick. So many different facets make the game non-stop fun. But some folks probably think it's too complicated, even though it's not.

COD doesn't have anything cool like that.

Lots of tactical objectives and varied gameplays, not just team deathmatch contest like other shooters. You can go around killing 100, but still be completely useless if you dont help your squad, platoon and company win the tactical objectives, work with them, and end losing the battle (and every win loss is counted for the overall war, losing contracts in certain modes means loss of prestige and failure for your faction)..

How long does a game usually last ? Man I haven't played these types of games in such a long time cause I've been loving the MMORPG genre atm (no, not WoW, WoW suxorz) But this game reminds me so much of "Battleground Europe" if it's team based and not some "lets see how many players i can kill before i die mwuahaha" game

I only like MAG when I'm playing with someone I know. Maybe it's cause at my rank I can only play one map and one game. But it is nice not to have to worry about missiles, helicopters, or AC-130s blowing you up.

The games don't last too long.

Yes. But that's kind of a good thing because you only play with people your level or slightly above you.

COD has a way higher learning curve. Which makes it the more difficult of the two games.

COD4 was piss easy for me in the multiplayer as soon as you got the scope for the big machine gun and RPG attachment you were sorted.

I'll be looking into MAG as soon as my internet gets sorted out.

Yeah I know, I group with 7 other clanmates or peeps in friendlist, and if we are lucky, 2nd squad too, meaning playing with 15 people you know and can rely on to do the task, its major major major fun. Its bit more random if you go solo if you have the luck of being teamed with noobs, at times a whole platoon of them. I'm going around as a platoon leader, giving helpful suggestions over platoon broadcast (everyone hearing me), but non listening. Or going around repairing their bunkers, roadblocks or such for them, only to lose them 10 seconds later and so on.

There are lots of good random solo players too. But I rather cut out the risk of being in such a helpless sitaution by grouping and playing with people one can rely on (with good 1-2 squads of 8-16 teamworking players, you can take a whole base that is defended by 64 players who arent doing much teamworking).

Most of the game modes take 20 minutes, as in the deadline you have to win the game. Thats for Sabotage (64 players mode), Aquisition (128 mode) and smallest one call Suppression (this one is like training mode, ends quicker based on how many killed, not 20 mins at all, quite quicker). But the big and huge ass mode, Dominition, 256 players mode (insane battlefield), it takes a full 30 minutes til it ends. But ALL of them can end in minutes if you dominate them as an attacking team, if the opposition is too easy, can do it on 2 minutes, happend quite abit for us (if you work together in numbers, you accomplish alot).

But if you are defending and dominating, you have to wait out the clock til the end, hold your defenses, base and objectives, even if you barely need to defend it and is duck hunting the opposition who is supposed to invade you hehe. Ask Andy, its bit ridicolous at times, if you are facing noobs, you go all to their spawn or spot they advance from, and kill them all game long, without giving them even an inch.

Just received my copy 20 min. ago.....can't wait to finish work!
Definitely choose Raven and meet up with us.

So what distinguishes MAG from the other usual junk like COD, HL2 etc...?
Lots of tactical objectives and varied gameplays, not just team deathmatch contest like other shooters. You can go around killing 100, but still be completely useless if you dont help your squad, platoon and company win the tactical objectives, work with them, and end losing the battle (and every win loss is counted for the overall war, losing contracts in certain modes means loss of prestige and failure for your faction)..
Indeed, there is a major tactical aspect to MAG that greatly surpasses COD. The fact that you have hundreds of players on one MAP and several objectives to secure mean that you really have a lot to do as a team and if you don't work together, you're screwed. In COD, you still need to work as a team, but it's far easier.

The contract aspect of the game is also pretty sweet. On the MAG site they even have the stock price changes of each faction (Raven, SVER and Valor), which is right up my interest ally. Good thing I chose RogueTrader as my PSN as that fits in well. :p

I hate the choppers and other nonsense.

And you'll rank up quick if you play a few games a day, getting pretty good.

Are the maps that are available to you locked by your experience?
Yes. But that's kind of a good thing because you only play with people your level or slightly above you.

COD has a way higher learning curve. Which makes it the more difficult of the two games.
I don't agree with you there. The Aquisition and Domination maps on MAG are much more difficult than the games on COD. Securing and repairing bunkers, stealing and defending transports, working on maps that are three times the size of the COD maps... I find that more difficult.

It really is far better working with team members you have an understanding with. Some fuckers working solo on the game run around with medical kits, stand over your dying body, and don't even help you out. With good mates it's much more fun.

And yeah, defending on Sabotage is very fun.
