How do the tax rules play in here?
What would be the difference in gross expenditure then?
Previously the tax rates for foreign players was nearly 50% (47% to be precise)
Now effective from Jan 2020, it's been reduced to 30%
To be eligible for the tax break, a player needs to spend minimum two years outside Italy.
But let's take this example for Dzeko and Suarez. Since Dzeko has been in Italy for quite a while, he'll be taxed as per the old tax rate. Assuming the agreed salary is €7.5M net, his gross salary would be roughly €14M as per the old tax rates. He's basically required to pay almost half of his gross income as income tax.
Now since Suarez is coming from abroad, he'll be eligible for the tax reduction. Since the agreed salary reportedly is €11M net, his gross wages would amount to roughly €15M gross. That's a significant reduction in taxable income which would clearly be appealing for many players coming from abroad.
