How did he do so well with Samp last season? Weren't they even undefeated at home?
It's easier to achieve success in smaller clubs where people don't demand much of you. If Samp hadn't done so well last year, it wouldn't be a major problem anyway.

In a big club like Juve, things are quite different. A manager needs to be psychologically strong and ambitious to be successful here.

Gigi Del Neri admits “consistency is not in our DNA, but it’s going to be a season of desperate disappointment if we carry on like this.”
Juventus beat Inter in the Derby d’Italia, but followed up that amazing result with back-to-back 2-0 defeats against strugglers Lecce and Bologna.

“Consistency is not in our DNA,” confessed the Coach. “Every time we concede, it’s when we lose our concentration.

“It’s impossible that a side like Juventus, after a victory over Inter, can throw everything away within two weeks.

“This is going to be a very difficult season of desperate disappointment if we carry on like this.

“I simply cannot believe that I lost the entire squad in the space of 15 days, although clearly there is much to be improved. It’s a shame for the fans, as they deserve something different.”

There was a reshuffled midfield, as Alberto Aquilani and Momo Sissoko were out of action.

“We did miss Aquilani, but the basic problem is that every player has to help his teammates,” continued an agitated Del Neri.

“Right now we are lacking the cool head to play like that. Vincenzo Iaquinta had fitness problems, so I tried to introduce more quality with Alessandro Del Piero at half-time.

“The team conceded when it was playing very tight. In these games we need more intensity. It seemed as if the win against Inter resolved all our problems, but instead we haven’t yet recovered from the defeat to Lecce.”
That reminded me of when someone said here that the 4-4-2 is in juventus dna

A lof of criticism in this thread, and a big part of it is obviously warranted.

But I simply can not agree with people saying Del Neri is a typical old fashioned Italian coach who doesn't have any (original) ideas.

* Playing one of the world's best CB's at LB to accomodate a less player in the middle.
* Playing strikers or supporting strikers on the wing time and time again.
...

Now, if that's not original, then I don't know what is.

Of course he won't, he is being paid well and most likely believes he can turn it around.
DN and turning things around do not co-exist
and I find it normal that he doesn't want to resign because of the wages...
plus it was not in his wildest dreams to coach a team like Juve...

That's what I thought. He has no dignity. Juventus for him is like a dream where he doesn't want anyone to wake him up.
Don't wait, Rab. He will not resign.
:agree:
