imo only the krasic sub was bad, but if you look at itup until then caliagri was putting alot of pressure and once sissoko came on we regained control of the game. the marchisio/martinex subs was a good one as we needed attackers in and it paid off.

Actually I thought it was a good one because some minutes later he takes marchisio off for Toni. In other words you can say that Toni came on for Krasic. Wingers or not it doesnt matter its not like we ever made a difference on the wings anyway and krasic has been on poor form. Not bringing krasic down but the guy needs a rest and he wasnt exactly doing that well and Del Neri has the balls to actually change away from his 4-4-2, which was well simply beautiful. Thank you del neri, I hope you have the guts to do that more often.

What was the thought behind Sissoko for Krasic? The Serb had a nice game and we ended up playing with no wingers for the rest of the match.
He wanted to have three strikers. When he put Sissoko on for Krasic I knew that Toni for a CM will follow next. He didn't put both of them at once in order not to give a chance to Cagliari's coach to react accordingly with his third sub. It's happening quite a lot, a standard tactic. When he saw that Nene is the third sub, he immediately put Toni in.

When Donadoni saw that we play with 4 CMs and we're not that dangerous he didn't go for defending the draw but he put an attacker in. He wasn't gonna do that if Del Neri put Toni in together with Sissoko.

It was weird how he did it, and at the time it didn't make sense. His reasoning (i think) was that he wanted to go to a 4-3-1-2, but for 5 mins we were playing a 4-4-2 with 4 CM's and 4 CB's. Toni should have been brought on for Marchi at the same time, instead he opted to try Aquilani as the "1" for a while. It worked a LOT better after Toni came on and DP dropped back. In hindsight it was the right move to make but the timing was poor.

Del Neri: 'It's easier with strikers...'

Gigi Del Neri is hardly surprised that Juventus got back to winning ways. “It’s easier when you actually have strikers...”
Although Jorge Martinez started in attack, it was January signings Alessandro Matri and Luca Toni who netted in the 3-1 win at Cagliari.

“We always said that Juve paid the price for not having the right players in the right place, especially in the box,” said the Coach.

“Both Martinez and Milos Krasic did well interpreting their roles, but we changed to a 4-3-1-2 giving Alessandro Del Piero and Matri more freedom.

“Do not forget that at Palermo we only had Martinez as a reserve in attack and he’s not really a forward. We should have Vincenzo Iaquinta back soon too, so it’s easier when you actually have strikers...

“It’s not simple to win at Cagliari, so this result gives us great confidence for the future, even if we have to keep our feet on the ground. We know we’re on the right track.”

That's why he subbed him in for Palermo too, because we were pushing forward and Palermo were counter attacking hard, but it was read as a bad sub because obviously we couldn't get another goal.
