Del Neri calls for no fear

Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri feels his players shouldn't be afraid to say the word Scudetto after a positive start to the season.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's grudge match against Fiorentina, Del Neri was keen to express his confidence in the Bianconeri.

Asked if the word Scudetto scares Juventus, he replied: “No, it makes us proud. It makes us honoured. It means that we are doing well and we have what it takes to realise an important objective.

“The road is long and difficult. Today we still lack around 60 points in the table [to be crowned champions]. Juve have always been convinced of the fact that we would have to have a season at the height of our means.

“The Scudetto is a long-term objective. To get there we need results in the short-term. We are concentrating on this.

“The squad is competitive. We must complete it with players coming back from injury. The squad could be perfected in January once we establish what we are missing.”

Pressed on whether Juventus need a striker, he said: “It seems to me like the only team to have scored 25 goals this season is Juve. I don't regret not having a bomber up front. I am convinced that I have players capable of scoring 15 goals a season.

“We have improved a lot in defence. We concede less goals and the team covers itself better.”

I don't think he's being honest about not wanting a striker. He's sort of playing the role of the politician here; he obviously doesn't want his strikers to look bad. I think it's clear he'd love to have a 'bomber' up front. In fact, that's exactly what's keeping us from being the best team in Italy at the moment.

The fact that we've scored more goals than any other team in Serie A until now doesn't mean out attack is fine; it just means our midfield is extraordinary. Complement that midfield with a great front line and you've got yourself Scudetto contenders.

Let's hope we make a good move in January; I truly believe that with Inter's continuous deterioration in form and Milan's lack of overall quality; if doesn't get fixed soon, we will have a great opportunity to go very far if we can just strengthen in two or three areas in the team.

Juventus coach Luigi Del Neri stated on Friday : "We will sign new players in January because we have too many injuries who need time to heal properly. However, recent rumours are inaccurate as we will not sign additional strikers. We already have quality players upfront and I disagree with the criticism directed at Amauri - he is just unlucky and injured. I am sure he will be very useful to the team once he recovers. I think he can be available in December".

u expect him to pull a Genoa and be like " he's useless, sell in jan"? He's doing the right thing, if he was able to get the best out of melo he can do the same with the others

I agree, he wont criticize him openly. But, if Amauri doesn't pick up his game, he will be sold next summer. There isn't a logical explanation to keep him around.

Thank goodness we don't have a Presiozi or a Zamparini in the team that goes out and says that our players are donkeys or the team sucks and it's for sale.

Why don't you support Cagliari?
It was a coincidence. When I was a child and I chose my favorite team, Cagliari was in C2 (4th division). Not even TV showed matches. A baby can't follow a team reading newspapers. Cagliari is far 200 km from my town.
My father (who remained Cagliari supporter in C2) at that time liked Juve in Serie A and I imitated him.
When Cagliari came back in Serie A, I already had taken my choise. But I don't hate Cagliari I like it.

Welcome. Fellow Sardinian here (from Villamar originally). Enjoy posting.
Thanks, I from Nùgoro. Very nice find other sardinian people here!

I must still commend DN.

Let's get things into perspective here

Juve has just come off one of its worst seasons in history where they couldn't score goals or even fight for a match.

This year, with a no-name squad, Juve are undefeated for 2 months, over 10 games, and are close to the top of the table - they are also the leading goal scorers - well done DN - not a great side, but more of a Juventus of old side slowly forming into shape.

A top 4 finish this season would be nothing short of gold

Del Neri: 'Viola did nothing to win'

Gigi Del Neri feels Juventus should’ve taken all three points this evening, as “Artur Boruc was Man of the Match and Fiorentina did nothing to win.”

Fiorentina took the lead after just four minutes thanks to a Marco Motta own goal, but late on Simone Pepe took the goalkeeper by surprise with his free kick.

“In the first half Fiorentina did well, finding a goal and then closing up effectively,” he said of the 1-1 draw.

“Then we reacted and created many scoring opportunities, so I liked the performance. Boruc was Man of the Match and was about to win the game for Fiorentina single-handed.”

The shot-stopper did perform a series of tough saves on Vincenzo Iaquinta and Giorgio Chiellini, but was arguably at fault for the equaliser.

“Considering the way we played, I think we dropped two points tonight. We conceded with the Viola’s only shot on target and that was an own goal.

“Fiorentina did absolutely nothing to win this game. They defended diligently, though.”

totally agree
