aha. So bring him back.

an attacking/ Centre mdifielder is what we need right now. we should look for a player to replace Nedved but it's not priority number one. I feel that even if Nedved does not perform like usual next season, we can use him in rotation with Del piero, Palladino and Marchionni on the left side.

Viola tie down Toni Friday 16 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has dismissed rumours suggesting Luca Toni might join Juventus at the end of the season. “We want him to stay.”

The World Champion has been linked with the Bianconeri, who are looking for young blood upfront to replace David Trezeguet should the Frenchman leave the Old Lady in the summer, and are allegedly ready to invest up to £35m to bring the player to Turin.

“Luca Toni and Adrian Mutu are an excellent partnership and have scored 21 goals so far,” said Corvino to Radio Radio TV.

“It is logical that many big teams are interested in such good strikers, but we must think about them as well, we want to keep our top men,” added the Viola official.

“Both players are happy here. Furthermore, we want to concentrate on the season’s objectives, without worrying too much about market gossip, we prefer to leave that to someone else. We want to give our all on the pitch, not in the market,” concluded Corvino.

Mutu confirmed that his future is in Florence and hopes that his teammate will also decide to not leave town.

“I don’t want him to join Juve, I would tell him to stay here, he is a great champion and we need him,” said the former Chelsea man.

“I don’t think he will leave. My future his here and I hope that is true for Toni as well.”

Meanwhile, Fiorentina have confirmed that midfielder Martin Jorgensen has extended his deal with the club and will wear the Viola jersey until 2009.

Hmm, nowhere in the article does it deny Juve's huge interest in Toni nor does it deny that they are actually persuing him :smoke:

Sounds like Viola are using the media to say they want him to stay. The ball is rolling!

Juventus prepare Toni bid

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus are reportedly ready to invest a massive $70m in their attempts to sign Fiorentina hotshot Luca Toni.

The Bianconeri are looking to strengthen their side in view of their likely return to Serie A and Toni is seen as an ideal replacement for David Trezeguet, should the Frenchman leave in the summer.

Whispers in the peninsula have been suggesting for weeks that Toni has already met with Juventus transfer consultant Roberto Bettega, even if that claim has been denied by all involved.

The Turin giants are said to be willing to set aside $70m, which would also include his salary, but the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper insists that still might not be enough to convince the Della Valle family to sacrifice the Azzurri hero.

The Tuscan owners are looking to reinforce the Viola machine and seem set on offering Toni a contract extension, plus a significant pay rise and bonuses depending on the results achieved.

Toni was also paired with a move to Inter last summer as the hitman openly declared that he was keen on immediately competing for the Champions League and Scudetto.

However, President Diego Della Valle blocked his transfer and convinced the former Palermo forward to remain.

If last year’s top scorer were to stay in Florence, Juventus might make a move for Milan man Alberto Gilardino instead.

According to some transfer specialists, Juventus may even be ready to offer Gigi Buffon to the Rossoneri in exchange for the striker and a significant lump of cash.

:disagree:I'd rather keep Buffon than have a striker if that's the case.

Cobolli denied today that he spoke ever with Toni, and he denied that Juve will pay any high amount of money to buy any player...
