Comparatively, Van Gaal is an improvement over Del Neri, but then again, so is every other manager currently associated with the sport. Including Ranieri - that doest mean we go about hiring him and/or whoever's available. You have to look at the way this team is built, it's cultural and sporting mindset, which is very different from how the Ajax and Barca models are built. A move like this is as short sighted as Marrotta coz Louis will be hired and fired before you can say Giuseppe. If anything, we are closest to Bayern in terms of history and style vis-a-vis the other teams he's been at. And even the good results he's acquired there has been due to the genius of Ribery, Robben and Mueller among others. We are from having that kind of quality on the pitch as things stand. Also having said that I don't believe Van Gaal is in the category of a Hiddink, Capello, Ancellotti, Mourinho. He's below them, both in terms of personality and ability. And right now, unfortunately, with this team playing with almost no identity, the last thing you need is someone whose perhaps the furthest thing from the ideologies Juventus has been conditioned to over its successful history. Right now, we need a guy with character, someone who will ingrain that winning mentality, something that has been part of the Bianconeri's game on the pitch.
Tactics, style of play are secondary at this point. Which is why getting a coach who understands the team, is right now more important than anything else. If given a choice, I don't mind Del Neri being around till the end of the season, so we can get a world class coach in the summer, rather than knee jerk now and give someone like Van Gaal a two year contract to implement his own ideas on a team that might not be ready for them. Also, I want to point out, the one thing we've shockingly lacked for two years now is continuity. All great teams are built on that. Which is why, play it safe and get a guy who'll grab the bull by the balls and bring out the best of everything available to him. And only one of those four i mentioned above, have it in them to do that, and even there I'd lean toward the Italians because they know this team and exactly what is needed. Capello now. AvB within 2-3 years. That's the right way forward. First re-inject the spirit and then bring in some fresh new ideas.
