Well, because I can, that's why.

Drivel to you, jokes to others. Learn how to take them.
Indeed, sound advice. I agree that I must try harder to simply ignore completely irrelevant tripe produced by completely irrelevant tripe. hohoho!

Back on topic, it seems that Almiron, Poulsen will hit the door and Ariaudo will be probably loaned out too!

Our full-backs have always been our weak point, hopefully this time, our new coach will give some chances to the alternatives we have.
Although i would love to see Molinaro and Grygera leave, unfortunately, i see them necessary for the moment, at least as back up!

Salih and Zebina, maybe be more skillful than our starters, but they are not reliable enough, for taking up a starter's place for the entire season!

I would like to see DC taking the left flank and Caceres the right one!
They are young and promising and have the potential to grow into decent Juve material starters! Since we are unwilling to invest on our defense, hopefully they will be grown to be the cheap/free real upgrade we need so much!
And Ariaudo will grown to be the future Chiellini partner!

In rest, our team is complete and its up to Ferrara to take the maximum from our players.
Hopefully he will make a fine use of them and the rotation. We have many versatile players and we can choose from a wide variety of formation and tactics!
If we remain injury free, our only problem will be, not to let our opponents to exploit our weakness in the back-line!

My big question would be ... who will run out of gas in the last third of the season?

Am I the only one that thinks Weedguru talks like a butler ?

Anyway, I pretty much agree with that post except selling Moli. He isn't actually that bad I think we let his terrible 07/08 season encapsulate him. But since CL last year he isn't that bad and I wouldn't mind him being a back up for a better LB.

I thought Caceres was a LB by the way. Am I wrong? Didn't Ciro say he would be our starting LB?

A butler???? hohoho! I write markedly differently to how I speak. Because I am an aspiring wordsmith, so anything I piece together in written form, whether letter, prose, poetry, text message or forum post, I like to read well. But butler??? that has made me chuckle, mate...

Last season Molinaro's shortcomings were tempered by Nedved's effort. In a 4-4-2, the left back is far more protected, and less required to support both the midfield and the forwards. In our new 4-3-1-2 formation, our fullbacks are both more exposed and more demanded to support offensively, to provide the width that, especially when playing against a 4-4-2, we lack, as our central trio are bunched together, not so much in a straight line, as Momo will clearly be the most defensive, Melo the more central, and then Camo or Tiago the more offensive.

Caceres has played left back for his country, but he apparently has the aerial ability, pace, and strength, to be assured in the middle of the defence. As Cron has said, our main problems in defence are on the flanks, and while Zebina and Sali have shown admirable, encouraging promise, in preseason, it remains to be seen whether they can maintain their form for a season. In which case, it makes sense to hope for De Ceglie to be given the chance to develop at left back, and for Caceres to challenge Zebina, on the right flank...As far as I know, he can play ANYWHERE along the back line.

Despite my solid input in the Ariuado Loan Saga thread, I would be happy to see him stay if he has a clear run to challenge Cannavaro, alongside Legro, for the central defensive position next to King Giorgio.

Don't get me wrong, Alfred. I admire your way with words.

I would prefer for Caceres to be played at left back. Sure, Sali has shown he is more then able to play there.
But like you say, with the change in formation there remains a need for a left back with more offensive ability. At the same time, our lack of width in midfield leaves the left and right back positions exposed and therefore with our need for a more attacking left back, comes a need for a defensively secure left back as well. I don't believe DC is that player. And from what I've seen, Moli and Caceres play that role better than DC and Sali.

The way I see it is, we are going to be orchestrating most of our attacks through the middle via Diego/Giovinco anyway. We are more exposed to other teams width, why not put a more defensively minded player in left back position? I see Sali and DC more as LB/Left wing types while I see Moli and Caceres as pure full backs.

But this is the problem we face without buying a proper left-back. We cannot use this formation with Caceres or Molinaro because all of the presence from the wings come from them. If our only support on the flanks is from them, we will be in trouble against the better sides who can thwart our attacks in the center. Teams like Chelsea for instance. So it's imperative that we sort that situation out.

I haven't really seen Caceres cross the ball much, but I wouldn't expect anything ground-breaking.

Its a real dilemma. In using the 4-3-1-2 we might have put ourselves at risk of becoming too predictable by attacking through the middle. Simultaneously, we're exposed defensively to sides who attack with width because our left and right backs have less support.
We're faced with a balancing act between our need to attack and defend down the wings. I think an inform Zebina encapsulates that balance, but on our left side we have 3 players who I feel aren't complete as we need them to be.

Molinaro - I feel has become pretty good at shutting down opponents but as we know, his crossing ability is infamously bad.

DC - The opposite to Moli I think. He could have been a Left-wing option had we played 4-4-2 with his better attacking abilities. At the same time, I think he's unsafe when he's defending. He's done some pretty poor marking jobs.

Sali - I really don't have enough knowledge on him to judge properly, but I assume he is similar to Deceglie in that he is good going forward and pretty average at stopping 1 on 1.

The jury is still out on Caceres though.

Our attacks in all areas of the pitch would not be predictable if we had good full-backs, but that's not the case. Perhaps we can get through the season with Hasan out left, then next summer bring in some quality backs.

Defensively, whomever is to the sides of Melo, probably Sissoko and Camo, will have lots of defensive work to do. I have confidence that we won't be too exposed by flank teams. Of course we won't be as protected as with the straight 4-4-2, but there are positives and negatives in all areas of the game, including formations.
