Happy New Year folks, I doubt I've been missed much but I will be back about on here more frequently as I'm settled again after a bit of a run about for the past 6 months.

Thought this would make an interesting discussion point - a lot happens in a year, a lot we expect and a lot we don't. What has happened this year for you guys that wasn't expected and is 'interesting' (for want of a better word)/ changed you/broadened your horizons.

Seems to me to be a more interesting way to look at/evaluate a year.

For me: I didn't expect to end up with girlfriend, due to my low self esteem i guess, but I did and it has opened me up to an entirely new culture. I have visited poland three times now and am planning a road trip there with her next summer.

Poland is a rad country and gets vilified in the British press, for reasons beyond me other than xenophobia, I love the culture, the food, the language (i start formal lessons next week if all goes to plan) and my partner.

Discuss if interested or let it die like most of my threads if not.

Back to the beginning - Happy new year regardless.

(I apparently didn't bother writing the title properly - can a mod put ' 2012' in stead of '2'

Congratz, Jasper. I'll get back to this thread, when I have the time - a lot happened to me this year too.

Did you visit Krackow? It's an absolutely wonderful city.
Not yet, part of the trip next year! I have done Wielkopolska and Gdansk area but not Gdansk :D

Nothing, really, and that is why I consider it one of my worst years yet.

It's been a rough one, I've lost some friends (who weren't actually close friends, but still), not seen much of my family, not had great financial luck, it's just been a bit of a slog. I'm looking forward to this coming year, the end of my degree, we have a trip planned, and I will get to spend more time with family. I feel like something is coming, I hope it's a force for good :)

Happy New Year to the rest of you :)

2012 absolutely flew by for me. I've had some good times and made a lot of new friends, but I've grown away from my oldest friends.

I feel like I didn't really achieve anything all year. I spent a lot of time talking about travelling or going back to college but didn't do anything about making either of those things reality. Ah well, some of it was fun. Hopefully I'll actually do more in 2013.

Have a good 2013, everyone. Do stuff.

    Happy New Year, Sam!

The surprise? My wife's mother has thus far survived her cancer. :xfinger:

It kind of defined the year for me.

They had the nerve to have a major football torunament awarded to them.

Every country who has one of them prior to England hosting another tournament can expect the same vilification.

    Aye.

Amused my no end when Udinese would play Adbi, since I'd be thinking 'everybody' when his name was said.

Udinese are substituting Pinzi to bring on Abdi....

    What? Isn't that cheating?
