i broke up with the girl i thought i would marry, now i am with a wonderful woman, who is so much better than i ever imagined. life does kick you in the teeth sometimes but you gotta grit your teeth and get on with it,good things will come your way.
on another note, i work in orthopaedics and trust me this does not mean the end of your football days, i also play 5-a-sides with 5 guys who were told never to play again abd the buggers are still better (and faster)than me

But trying to shoehorn something that's not going to work is going to leave you with more heartbreak in trying to prevent its eventuality.
