Thanks to the swoon-inducing efforts of sex symbols like David Beckham and Calvin Klein hunk Freddie Ljungberg, more and more footie stars are making the crossover to modelling. And the fashion industry's latest premiere league signing looks set to cause quite a stir, because Liverpool FC's Luis Garcia is already setting hearts aflutter in advertisements for H&M.
With his chiselled features and swarthy skin the 27-year-old, who replaces England goalkeeper David James on billboards for the company, was a natural choice for their latest publicity drive.
Luis is already something of a hero in Liverpool after helping his club win the Champions League despite them being considered rank outsiders. H&M obviously believes he can work some of that same magic for their retail outlets as they set about boosting sales of business wear.
"If there is one type of clothing that H&M used to be less associated with than others, it was more formal clothing like suits," said a spokesman. "But over the last few years we have worked to change that." And with one of Spain's hottest talents now modelling their menswear collection, the company is feeling confident it will achieve its goals.
