LIVERPOOL 2 - 1 WEST HAM UNITED
Saturday 26 August 2006 12:45 , Barclays Premiership
REDS COMEBACK KINGS AGAIN

Liverpool have celebrated 100 years of the Kop in style after goals from Daniel Agger and Peter Crouch gave them a 2-1 victory over West Ham in Saturday's Premiership clash at Anfield.

A Bobby Zamora goal had looked like spoiling Anfield's day of celebration, but two goals in three minutes from Agger and then Crouch turned the tables and ensured the Reds would take all three points in their first home game of the season.

West Ham took the lead in the 12th minute with a Bobby Zamora goal that revived memories of the FA Cup Final, because it looked like Zamora had intended a cross just as Paul Konchesky had when deceiving Reina in Cardiff.

It was a goal somewhat against the run of play because it was Liverpool who had looked the best side before and it took a goal line clearance from Konchesky to deny Fabio Aurelio's curling free kick in the 10th minute.

But just as it looked like the Hammers would take a lead into the break, Daniel Agger beat Roy Carroll with a superb 25-yard drive to make the scores level. And on the stroke of half time Peter Crouch completed a quick turnaround when dancing around Carroll before scoring after Garcia's clever pass had sent him though.

Anfield got a look at their latest signing Dirk Kuyt when he replaced Crouch in the 52nd minute and he quickly won their hearts with an all action display and he would have scored had it not been for a two excellent saves from Carroll.

Kuyt wasn't the only one who came close to extending Liverpool's lead in the second half and Craig Bellamy in particular suffered a frustrating afternoon, not least when being flagged offside when he looked to have legitimately made it 3-1.

he is no hack thats just a load of BS.

he only needs to use his head, keep his cool and he will be a great defender.Mybe the liverpool move would be ideal for that.I think Hyypia although he isnt the best overall but he is a smart defender and would help Lucas a lot.

The infection he got in his foot in the WC was very serious if i remember correctly. And i heard that he was going to be out for a while.

Rafa gave up on him imo, thats why he brought in Gonzalez.

I can find nothing concerning Neill and Liverpool. Unless this is a top secret midnight deal I don't think it is for real. Though the Reds could use another quality defender.

Well Blackburn have rejected that offer of 2 mil pounds but i bet my bottom dollar they will crack blackburn and get Neil!
Liverpool are still hoping to sign Blackburn defender Lucas Neill but may have to up their bid to £4m, which i think they will!

As for Kewell he may well b on the outter it seems....:(

Looks like you were right Alfio, we should have Neil signed any moment now. As for Kewell, his agent has denied any transfer talks so will just have to wait and see.

:agree:
Lucas needs a change of place imo and the liverpool move would've put him there just close to the world class defenders

indeed he does need a change! But he will have to wait until January i guess, i suspect he will refuse to sign a new contract with blackburn! And they will have no choice but to sell him or loose him for free!

I think we will get Neill in January unless he plays like shit or gets injured between now and then. Blackburn wanted too much in the deal, Warnock plus money? That's whishful thinking especially with the injuries to Kewell and Risse.

yer they did try to get as much as possible which streched it! It may now never happen from now and january there is a hell of a lot of football to be played! So by than lets hope liverpool defence is still 50/50 and Neil can do more of those quality performances like the ones in the wc and the latest againest Chelsea!
