Yeah, we should have escaped with a win for sure, I caught the first half and honestly thought we would blow them out in the second. Bellamy and Kuyt looked like they can have a decent partnership should Rafa pair them more often.

I like Gonzalez and Fabio a lot as well. But Fabio has really been a let down in the midfield as he doesn't attack full heartedly. I think he has trust issues with Warnock playing behind him, which is not needed because Warnock proved last season that he is very capable. It seems Fabio is a think first player unlike Mark who just attacks. Which is why I like Harry, at times he has shown thought as well as the ability to all out attack.

ALONSO HIGH AS A KUYT AS REDS WIN

Xabi Alonso scored one of the most spectacular goals in Anfield history as Dirk Kuyt got off the mark in a red shirt and Liverpool got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 home victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Kuyt netted for the first time since his August arrival from Feyenoord when he opened the scoring by converting from close-range in the 29th minute.

But it was Alonso's stunning strike that people will be talking about for years to come. It came 11 minutes from time and was an almost carbon-copy of his famous long-range goal against Luton in January.

Dispossessing Charles N'Zogbia about 60-yards out, the Spaniard potted Steve Harper off his line and floated a delightful dipping effort high into the Kop net.

It put the seal on a well-deserved win for the Reds who dominated for long periods and have moved up six places in the Premiership table as a result.

LIVERPOOL 3 - 0 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Saturday 23 September 2006 12:45 , Barclays Premiership
RAMPANT REDS TAKE THE POINTS

Liverpool made it three wins out of three at Anfield in the Premiership after goals from Mark Gonzalez, Dirk Kuyt and John Arne Riise gave them a deserved 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday's early kick off.

The victory maintains the Reds' 100% home record in the Premiership and as well as showing the guile to unlock a well organised Spurs defence, they recorded another clean sheet with a sound defensive display.

The first half of this match belonged to the defences. Chances were rare, but Liverpool did have the better of them. After his wonder goal against Newcastle on Wednesday, the fans were urging Xabi Alonso to shoot at every opportunity; and he nearly gave the Reds the lead when his 12th minute shot flashed passed the post with Robinson beaten.

The England goalkeeper was in action again on the stroke of half time and this time he had to be at his best to save Craig Bellamy's 45th minute shot after he had been put clear by Gonzalez. But Robinson's success was to be short-lived because he was beaten three times in the second half as the Reds took control and took all three points.

Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after brilliant play from Gerrard gave Gonzalez the chance to rifle home at the far post; and Dirk Kuyt continued his fine start to his Liverpool career when making it 2-0 with a fierce 73rd minute drive after Garcia's clever pass had set him up.

John Arne Riise put the finishing touches on the win with a fantastic 89th rocket from 25 yards and the Reds will head into Wednesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray in good form after back to back wins.

I agree, I have been pleasantly surprised with his form. I didn't think he would adjust so quickly. That said, I think it is only a matter of time before Bellamy begins scoring too.

the look on Luis Garcia's face after Crouch scored was soo funny. He put his hands on his head ffs, he didnt believe it.

Anyway enron, galatasary were very close to making it 3-3, Sukur missed a sitter right the end.

Agger screwed me in the fantasy league, was counting on the points to come from him :(

Yeah I'm not looking forward to the trip to Istanbul. I'm hoping for at least 4 points from Bordeaux and a win of PSV before we play them again.

yeah, but u should get all 6 from Bordeaux though.....Psv wont be easy then facing the Turks in their backyard which is very tough.
So getting those back to back wins is very important, but i think ur team will make it to 2nd round easy.

I hate Bolton. thanks for posting the Crouch pic! I was watching the game via tvu, and the quality wasn't great so I couldn't tell exactly how he scored, but then I saw it on the UEFA website...what a goal!

Bolton gave ur guys team a very hard time all game. And there were no solutions. I was surprised that Gerrard wasnt moved to the center.
Rafa shot himself in the foot, he should've taken a winger with him.
