I gotta say... Standing back a little here, this is almost kind of comical, but in a very sad, self-destructive way. It's like watching a bunch of 5-year-olds fighting over a used piece of chewing gum found on the playground.
Rep points was a nice little introduction to an idea to try to add some element of esteem over just post counts. But the people dishing it out indiscriminately have made it a joke. Worse, people are treating it like it's actually worth something -- to the extent that they are getting pissed off and insulting each other over it.
You can't exchange rep points for fabulous prizes or anything. You can't even exchange them for lousy vCash for that matter.
The reality is that any true mark or measure of a poster's reputation is not going to come from some silly pushbutton system open to abuse and idiocy and ballot-stuffing -- just as it didn't necessarily come from a person's post count. Maybe the newbies don't realize it. But anyone who has been around the block on this forum long enough know who should have what reputation for that matter. So some silly rep point system is a lousy proxy for reality here.
I think a lot of people are getting worked up over something that is more meaningless than the Coppa Italia. Which begs the question of why bother with it in the first place. I ask that question myself. I would prefer to do away with it if it's only going to result in black-eye exchanges like this.
