If he is planning on bringing the usual bunch of over-rated primadonna's then he is not someone I want. I hope he doesn't let his Juventus days get in the way of selection. Any fool could realize that Pirlo-Cassano are the future of that squad.
Agree with this...and not only that....

In tough situations-.-- lippi is well known of choosing the wrong choices...and there are games when he have to risk.. but he prefers to play cattenaccio in a very similar way of Trap.

I respect Lippi... buti dont think he is the best choice.

It is the best choice right now.
Maybe Capello better...:devil::D
But he is ours.
So it Lippi who know everything about Italian football, and knows evrybody,i'm sure he will do the right things, and after Trap,he can't make mistakes!
Our future should be with players like Gila,Cassano,De rossi,Pirlo,Ferrari,Zambro,Gattusso,Maresca and etc.
Drop:panucci,Vieri,Camo,Fiore,Zanetti,maybe Dp...

GOOD LUCK MARCELO!!!

Drop DP??????:p Lippi drop his beloved forward even when he plays like the dogs turd?? God forbid!

I think we should really bulk our midfield up. We suck in midfield. Perrota, he is ok but hardly a class player. Camorensi i always thought is rubbish. We should just bring in maresca to the national side, and miccoli and de rossi.

I hope Cannavaro does not retire as he and Nesta can still go some

I would play

Buffon

Rb..............Nesta.............Cannavaro..................Zambrotta

--------------De Rossi...........Gatusso...............Pirlo

============Totti

-------------------------Cassano-------------Gilardino

Subs
Ferrari
Perotta
Inzaghi

And anyone else who emerges

Unless there is a huge gain in form from Dp and Vieri then they should be discarded for good

Zanetti and Camoranesi, no matter what should never be called imo

GK: Buffon
RB: Oddo/Bonera/Zaccardo
CB: Nesta
CB: Cannavaro/Ferrari
LB: Zambrotta
RM: Gattuso
CM: Pirlo
LM: De Rossi/Maresca
AM: Totti
RS: Gilardino
LS: Cassano

Being a die-hard Del Piero fan I'd love for him to refind his 2001-2003 form (he'll never be as good as 98 again) and claim a place in the squad if not the starting line-up, but I can't see it happening, even if Lippi becomes the coach.

According to channel4 Lippi has hinted that Bonera, De Rossi, Cassano and Gilardino will all play big roles in his Italy team, and that's definitely a step in the right direction imo :)

Lippi embraces Azzurri dream

Friday 25 June, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marcello Lippi has spoken of his joy at taking over the Italy squad, though he could bring in Ciro Ferrara as an assistant manager.

“I am happy, emotional and filled with pride,” commented the Coach after putting pen to paper on a two-year contract. “The national squad is the dream of any tactician, and it certainly was one of my ambitions.”

The former Juventus boss steps in after the unceremonious exit of Giovanni Trapattoni, who failed to reach the final eight in both the World Cup and Euro 2004.

“My first thoughts go out to that fantastic professional, Trapattoni,” noted the new man. “I am very close to him and we often spoke on the phone.”

Trap’s contract does not expire until July 15, but there will be no early end to this deal, so Lippi can only officially take charge on the 16th.

There has already been much speculation on what form Lippi’s Italy side will take, but he did hint that Antonio Cassano and Under-21 internationals Alberto Gilardino, Daniele Bonera and Daniele De Rossi would take a starring role.

“I don’t want to revolutionise the squad. The main structure should remain untouched, with the addition of several young players. I want to bring my experience and enthusiasm to the national side."

"My vision is of a true expression of Italian football, mixing Under-21 internationals who need experience and the kind of great players we saw at Euro 2004. If possible, I’ll ask for help from club Coaches and visit their training sessions.”

The cigar-smoking Coach has won five Scudetto titles and a Champions’ League trophy with Juventus, but failed miserably during his brief spell at Inter.

“The Nazionale will not change me,” he assured, “and I don’t see why it should. In any case, if I do change then it will be for the better.”

There will be a revolution in terms of the staff, with Bordon coming in to train the goalkeepers and Pincolini as fitness Coach.

It has been suggested in several newspapers that Juventus hero Ciro Ferrara could be appointed assistant manager. He already held a position of go-between for the Coach and players during the 1998 World Cup, when he was included in the squad despite not being able to play due to injury.

“Lippi has told me he wants to slim down the Azzurri staff to the bare minimum,” explained FIGC President Franco Carraro. “His wages are slightly less than Trapattoni’s, but the contract can be extended if things go well.”

Carraro today admitted he had made a mistake in not firing Trap after the 2002 World Cup debacle.

“I hope that Lippi’s work will bring the results that Italian football deserves, learning from the negative experience of the World Cup and European Championship.”

See all coaches have their favourites. Personally, i thin Alex's nazionale career is done with. But with Lippi around i think it may go on longer than it should and hold up a place of someone who could do more with the role.

Neway all said and done, dont think we'll find a better coach for the Nazionale than Lippi himself. Forza Marcello.

Good luck, Marcello.

I hope he has a lot of great success in his new role. It's going to be a challenge, however. Gearing up a mixed bag of players with other commitments to put together a qualifying squad is a challenge enough. Then to take them towards excelling over a 6-game tournament? That's a far cry from a 34-game season plus CL play.

When you make mistakes or try out certain ideas or players, you have to act very quickly. There's just no time for second chances in those situations.

In all honesty, with Lippi taking over I don't think I will be seeing any drastic changes in the style of play from Italy.

I think it's going to be the same boring, defensive Italy.

This is not what I want. A coach like Mancini or Del Neri would have been better but they are taken.

I think Lippi will definitely play Gattuso, because he always plays 1 hardworking player in the team (ie: Davids, then later Appiah)

I wonder if it's gonna be a 5 or 4 man midfield. Nevertheless, I hope we get to see Enzo playing for Italy. Lippi also likes an offensive minded midfielder (ie: Zidane, Nedved) so most like he woud play a 4-3-1-2 rather than a flat 4-4-2. And a 4-2-3-1 would accomodate that person. I think the person Lippi wants here would be Cassano. Perhaps Totti? One of Trap's mistake was playing Totti as a striker and not as a midfielder.

As said before, Lippi has hinted that he intends to play Gila in future. Does this mean the end of Vieri's national career? Besides, we only need 1 big target-man. Or will it be time for Corradi to shine?

Whatever it is, I wish Lippi the best of luck and I hope he wins the World Cup in 2006.
